Tint lift rather than bleach highlights

Is it a thing? I've had hairdresser bleached highlights for 10+ years I have very dry over processed hair and I am just about to change hairdressers and went for a consultation, I used to pay £120-150 every 4-6 weeks but with new baby now about to start nursery I can't keep up with the cost. I'm too grey to dye hair back to original colour and not yet ready to embrace the grey... so new hairdressers does full set of highlights or paints full sections of hair and says she doesn't use bleach uses a tint lift? I've never heard of it but apparently is much better for hair and isn't as damaging! The coat is £50 for a full head so would be much easier to maintain financially - just wondered has anyone any experience with this? Is it a thing ? Is it good? Do other salons do this?

Yes - my previous hairdresser used to do this.

I don’t like it and prefer bleach. I have very dark natural hair and it is dyed all colours of blonde so some stay on longer than others to achieve this. If you have it all block colour or all one colour of blonde it won’t work but if you have light hair and only want a few streaks it’ll probably be fine

Sorry I worded that wrong and I dunno how. If you have it all one colour and light hair yes it will be fine. If you have dark hair and want different coloured blonde through your hair then it won’t.

Sorry! Arghhh mondays

High lift tint will work well to lighten hair and you can get quitr blonde (esp if you are naturally quite fair anyway...) but a high lift tint won't ever get it as blonde as using a bleach and toner.
So it depends how light you want to go and what you're happy with.

High lift tint is just like the hair dyes you buy in boots (eg Nice n Easy etc) but applied professionally which does makes a difference. I have mousy hair and it gets me blonde. They can also apply toner after.

You can also be cheeky and top up your own roots between visits at home using stuff like Nice n Easy etc (if you pick the right colour).. i assume all hairdressers find this annoying but I never had any of them tell me off for it (used to do this a lot in my early 20s!)

I used to do this and quite liked it but it's much more of an orangey blonde than a cool blonde that highlights will give you.
