An odd gift for someone cutting down on booze.

My friends know I am not drinking much these days so why did 3 of them get me booze for my birthday?

Buying alcohol as a gift is easy but if they know you are cutting back then it is thoughtless.

They aren't saying here drink it all at once. For all they know OP is cutting back because it's expensive. Which makes it very thoughtful.

How sure are you that they know? You have no doubt mentioned it but was it just once in passing a few months ago? How often do you see them? If it was just commented on once and they haven't seen much of you lately they may very well have forgotten and got you the default gift
