93 years old- fuel bill

How on earth am I going to deal with this? I've been paying my grandmother's bills through my account for years because she didn't have a bank account, she would then give me the cash the following month.

She is with British Gas and her bill is going up from £86 per month to £214.
She receives help with her rent and a state pension, I really don't know how I'm going to have this conversation with her without upsetting her. I wish I could just pay it for her but I just don't have the money.
I feel sick.

He’d hearing was on all the time for £86 a month??? In a 3 bed house? That wasn’t possible. The new rate seems more realistic. Are you sure she’s not in arrears?

Not in arrears, the heating was on but she can no longer cook so the oven and hob isn't used and she can't shower or bath either.

And she got the 2 government fuel support payments which came to £440 for the year

@SpinningTheSeedsOfLove @missymayhemsmum @LardyDee I'm popping back to this thread to say a HUGE thank you for mentioning Attendance Allowance, my Nan has just received a letter to say she qualifies! I had never heard of this benefit and wouldn't have applied on her behalf without your advice, I'm very grateful so thank you 💐

That's excellent news and means she should also be entitled to the extra fuel payments that brings.

Great update. Do you work? Will you claim carers allowance now?
