Posting for traffic

We are having a 40th party for my OH at the weekend in our garden. And I think I’ve forgotten how to dress.
I have an 8 month old and look and feel like absolute rubbish. I haven’t shopped for ages so I don’t know what looks good anymore, but I would just like to look nice for the day!
Any ideas? It’s going to be quite cold so will need to factor this in.
I’m 5 foot 4 and size 10. Early 30s. Dark hair and olive skin if this is at all relevant.

Thank you 🙏🏻

If you breastfeed (obvs if you don't, ignore this comment), check out the Facebook group 'can I breastfeed in it'. It's full of mums with babies posting outfit ideas and links to nice fashion especially for occasionwear. I've had some amazing outfit ideas from there. All good clothes for hiding postpartum baby bumps too

OatmilkandCookies · 03/04/2022 20:59

Totally depends on what you're comfortable in.
Some options:
A nice black dress with heels - maybe a nice pastel colour with matching bag
A jumpsuit with heels
Fitted jeans/leather style jeans with a nice top, and either flats or heels, with nice jewellery to style it up a bit
I find if you pick what you're most comfortable wearing and go from there you'll have the best night

Lunch time or evening? Is there a marquee and HEATING?

Is it formal or a bbq?

ItsDisneyBitch · 03/04/2022 21:02

I guess it depends on the weather. I’m a bit of a fan of the jumpsuit of late. At least you can kind of dress them up a bit and stick a jacket on when it gets nippy.

waltzingparrot · 03/04/2022 21:08

I was thinking long sleeve jumpsuit too and then you can put thermals on under it.

A naice pastel dress with matching bag for a party in the garden - actual lols!

Unless you actually live at Buckingham Palace, that might be a bit over the top.

inacuppa · 03/04/2022 21:13

Begins at 2pm until whenever really! (Obviously not too late). Not that formal and we have hired a food van.

I had forgotten about that page @Mummy1608 thank you! I am feeding.

What about a nice maxi dress with wedges then if it was cold you could pop leggings under and nobody would know. A cute denim jacket, chunky bracelet..hope that’s helped

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 03/04/2022 21:40

If you are feeding outside, I would recommend a fitted vest top you can pull down (but keep your tummy covered) and a nice loose-ish top you can pull up. Pair with jeans and nice sandals/boots/trainers and a warm cardi or jacket

Calandor · 03/04/2022 21:41

I'd wear a midi dress with boot heels. You're the same measurements as me and that always makes me feel cute

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 03/04/2022 21:42

Maybe something like this? (But you could choose anything that suits your style) www.monsoon.co.uk/elaina-paisley-square-neck-top-2405920210.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwi6WSBhA-EiwA6Niok2KFr16N5kaYvhmF1rd21NpsI4-6WkHXCirwiuEkiHHEnoSMrzM5kxoC3ccQAvD_BwE

EmeraldShamrock1 · 03/04/2022 21:43

A wrap dress with sheer tights to keep your legs warm.
Vest top underneath.
A wrap dress suits all shapes.

I mean I didn't mean a ball gown! Some of us just like to dress up I guess!
ThreeLittleDots · 03/04/2022 23:46

Why would she need to carry around a handbag in her own garden?

Aria999 · 04/04/2022 02:00

If it's in the garden you want flats or wedges, sinking into the grass with every step is no fun.

I would go with the jeans and a nice top and some jewelry idea. If it's going to be cold, semi casual jacket? I have a beautiful Italian leather one I wear for this kind of stuff though I have a nasty feeling leather jackets may be a bit last decade.

GlamorousHeifer · 04/04/2022 06:07

You lot must be a lot dressier than me Grin
If it was a party I was hosting in my garden I would be in skinny jeans (don't care if they're not on trend anymore, they will be peeled of my cold dead body!) and a nice top/jumper depending on the weather!
This kind of combo seems to be what most of my friends would go for, we wouldn't get that dressed up for a garden party.

ApolloandDaphne · 04/04/2022 06:14

Given the weather is set to be very cold this weekend I would be in jeans, ankle boots a thick sweater and a jacket. I imagine most of your guests will come dressed to be cosy too.
