How much is too much? Periods

NetflixMom21 · 03/04/2022 11:33

I have always had heavy and painful periods, they haven’t done any investigations yet as to why.

This period though is keep me constantly in the bathroom! Have changed a night time pad 3/4 times in the last hour (2 of those in the last 20 minutes) and it feels like constantly passing blood clots (bigger than £2/50p coin). I have counted roughly about 10 in the last hour alone.

What the hell do I do apart from sitting on the toilet all day?!

(Definitely no chance of pregnancy, etc).

I would seek medical advice for that amount of loss. Is anyone at home with you?

Findahouse21 · 03/04/2022 11:34

I'd say 111 for advice - I was always advised that anything more than a pad an hour needs to be assessed

jeaux90 · 03/04/2022 11:34

How old are you? Do you think you could be in peri menopause?

Definitely
RosiePosieDozy · 03/04/2022 11:35

Definitely doesn't sound right to me. Changing a night-time pad three times in an hour isn't right.

You need to speak to a doctor and explain this. Tell them exactly what you've written in your post.

Even if the OP is that's too much loss
NetflixMom21 · 03/04/2022 11:36

Home alone with my child at the moment, at the moment I feel okay within myself, just more of a nuisance than anything!

Late 20’s x

Okay I've just seen pp's post. I agree that it's best to call 111 for some immediate advice.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/04/2022 11:37

I’d say you need to seek medical advice today. That is an awful lot of blood loss. I always thought “not normal” was having to change a pad more than once an hour. That number of clots does not sound reassuring either.
111?
A&E?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2022 11:39

Personally I'd go to urgent care immediately and I don't usually recommend that but without wanting to scare you ,you don't want to pass out or get dizzy or worse.

Can someone take you?

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 03/04/2022 11:40

You need to get medical assistance for that much blood loss, especially as it's not normal for you.

Please ring 111.

StrawberrySanta · 03/04/2022 11:41

I'd call 111 at a minimum that does sound worrying

jeaux90 · 03/04/2022 11:42

Ok so probably too young for this to be peri menopause I'd definitely be going to the Dr. It's a lot and whilst I did have similar during peri this is still too much I'd say.

NetflixMom21 · 03/04/2022 11:43

Our urgent care centre is under the 111 now, so you can’t just show up or contact them directly anymore… I’ll give 111 a call now… I just didn’t want to sound dramatic ringing over a heavy period! I have got some old tranexamic acid in the cupboard but it’s expired! X

Stress that this isn't usual for you.

TheSandgroper · 03/04/2022 12:07

It’s probably a bit late now but next time, use pads only and keep each pad in the fridge as you fill them up. Add date and time to the back.

Then they can all be measured. Hard data beats a woman saying “I don’t think I’m well” every time. If you have a set of digital scales then you can weigh it all yourself, removing the weight of each pad as you go. You will probably have to advocate strongly for yourself so, yeah, data up.

Even Serena Williams had to advocate for herself after the birth of her daughter and insist that she had a clot in her lung AGAIN and she needed attention.

Rrrob · 03/04/2022 12:07

Definitely seek medical advice. I’ve had really heavy periods since having DC but that heavy would worry me.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/04/2022 00:08

How are you OP?

Sapphireskies · 04/04/2022 00:17

Hope you are okay OP and are being seen you have done the right thing ringing 111 Thanks

Boxowine · 04/04/2022 01:49

Just curious, have you recently had the covid jab?

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 04/04/2022 04:42

Do this OP- hard data all the way. Although I used to weigh each pad as I went throughout the day... So I knew nighttime pad 1 that I'd been using for x minutes was x grammes (obvs you need to deduct the weight of the pad... There will be alight variation on each pad... But not enough to make a huge error!

My sympathies OP... I had this starting in my late 20s...

I suffered way too long and tolerated shitty dismissive treatment from medics...

In the end my periods were so disabling... On bad days I couldn't leave the house.

Ask for an urgent appt with your GP and ask for onward referral for investigation and ask for help managing the bleeding TODAY!

For me, turned out was badly anaemic (as in tranfusable levels) from all the bleeding. Also i had endometriosis and also loads of really large fibroid which they told me had been developing for years.

Please don't suffer in silence!
