What else can I do?

Posting for traffic but I imagine a few others are in the same situation.

I work in communications for a large company. Two kids. I don't think I can do this role anymore. It's all very last minute if an outside crisis kicks off, and my flexible working which was once the norm is no longer possible as my boss has moved on and I feel it's all very dependent on who your boss is. More than that I feel it's just the industry - you're at the mercy of senior people clicking their fingers for something at 4pm. I could cut my hours/days, but I feel I'd still be expected to work if something came up.

Can anyone in the same industry suggest how they make it work with kids? Plenty of family support, but not wanting to hire a nanny etc. and if you do have a good WFH/hybrid system, where do you work?

Weirdly my friend was in a very similar situation. Before having children she loved the fast paced and often all hours nature of her comms job, but afterwards found it unmanageable. Fortunately an internal comms job came up and she's been very happy since- I don't understand the sector that much but she said as things can wait she works set hours and nothing more. Do you work private or public sector?

I forgot to say I'd be open to job sharing and FTC's and my husband works 7am - 7pm so can't really help with kid transfers but then pulls his weight more than he needs to at the weekend.

For a job share, I always imagined your salary would be chopped in half?!

I work in the private sector and have been open to moving to an internal role for that reason. I still think there would be a lot on, but not as heavy going as currently.

What about looking for a comms job in your local authority?

You mean like the council? That may make sense, I've thought of it as all the council employees I know (not many, but it's opposite my local gym!) seem quite content, but surely that would have its own crises? I think it's a good thought
