...to expect that 20 year olds should be thought of as adults?

Hello

No personal axe to grind here but I've just read another thread where people are defending a 20 year old, saying he's not much more than a boy, he's a kid, what do you expect etc.

I'm only 36 so can remember being 20 and, as I remember it, I was treated like, and expected to act like an adult. When did we decide that 20 year olds were still kids and so, could act in whatever way they wanted?

Just wondered

At work my 17-21 year olds are classed as Young Offenders. They are not classified as Adults until they are 21 years and 10 months.

20yo IME vary a great deal in maturity.

Sorry to hijack - am testing to see if I can replicate the problem Desiderata had...

DP's brother is 19, and though in many ways he is an adult I wouldn't expect him to behave the same as a 30year old.

I was married and pg at 20 but looking back, I think I was pretty mature for my age. No way were/are my own dses and dd fully formed at 20yo! In Scotland one is legally responsible for one's children until they are 25yo, so at 20, there's still a way to go. As with all these things, it will depend from person to person.
