To think BT OpenReach are useless?

We've had no internet or phone since Sunday. Lots of other customers in the area are affected, but seemingly only Sky customers. Sky say it's OpenReach and I need to wait until it's fixed. OpenReach say they have no info on any outage.

Meanwhile, I've bought BT WiFi hotspot access in order to work so if it's BT OpenReach's problem then surely this wouldn't work if there is a problem with the local exchange? Nobody wants to take ownership. AIBU for being frustrated and cross?

This is always the problem when you use a different provider to BT. Left hand, right hand spring to mind.
I have BT broadband for this very reason. Probably a bit more expensive but I seldom have had issues in 8yrs.
Doesn't help you, you're still paying for a service you're not receiving. Can you threaten to move if they don't sort it out? Don't like Sky fob you off. They should be the ones liaising with BT, not you

Pay for Business services if you wish Business resolution/fixes

You are not being unreasonable for being frustrated and cross, but it should be with Sky as they own your problem. Its quite possible that the issue is entirely with Sky rather than BT Openreach.

Your contract is with Sky, it's up to them to fix it.

I’ve found the communication between BT and Openreach to be dire recently - I shudder to think what it’s like with another party involved. It took nearly two weeks to resolve by broadband issues.

I would just like to point out that BT have absolutely nothing to do with Openreach. It's legally been a separate group since 2017 under ofcom guidance due to fair competition rules.
Sky need to be reporting the fault to Openreach for them to investigate.
Have sky arranged for engineers to attends to see what the fault is?

balalake · 01/04/2022 07:11

Hope you can get it fixed.

As for BT, they are one of the biggest hindrances to business in the UK there is. Analogue service in a digital world.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 01/04/2022 07:19

Your contract is with SKY so OpenReach won't be able to help you - you need to keep pestering SKY about it.

We used to be with them and they were absolutely appalling - the customer service was horrendous and so was their broadband.

We switched back to BT when our contract ran out and while they're not perfect, they're much better than SKY ever were and at least solved our problems within a day or so.

I work for openreach and can assure you all service providers get the same priority no on one jumps the regulators are all over us.

What does happens is you ring your service provider to log a fault then they pass it over to open reach . Some service providers are very efficient at this and it's same day some are absolutely shit at this and from the customer ringing them it can be days before they pass it to open reach to deal yet they blame us.
Repairs can be very complexed and a lot of the delays are out of open reaches hands . If we need to get in the underground network and the manhole is in a road we have to apply for permits from the council and they can take 4 days or more before they allow us access .

With sky and other providers they have there own equipment in the exchange it's nothing to do with bt , openreach or anyone else . They rent a space in the exchange put there equipment in there making there telephone and b/band service it's solely there equipment and there responsibility .
Sounds like one of sky equipment racks have failed . But what you will get if you contact them is them blaming openreach for the delay .

The bt wifi network works off the BT equipment in the exchange Sky b band work off sky equipment in the exchange so thats why your BT wi fi hot spot is working it's coming off different equipment .

The massive problem is the majority of service providers never explain the problem to the customers but just blame open reach

I was involved in one last week here a customer had no service for 4 weeks . Service provider calling us fit to burn to customer.
Problem was a 3rd party had damaged our cable . To replace it they had to shut 1 lane of the city centre oneway system. Permit for that took ages to come through then because part of it was adjacent to railway line when had to get network rail involved as well .

I think part of the problem is communication but when openreach was set up it was part of the terms that they only deal with service providers not individual customers .

I get this day in day out service providers blame openreach for there problem it's an easy get out for them .
