Ti think if your kid has a cold and you have covid

You don't send the kid in to school?

They are dropping like flies in DD's class just before the holidays.

A mum is saying on the class whatsapp that her kid has had a cold all week & now she has tested positive. But she's still sending him in.

I mean, she's at home anyway 🤷🏾‍♀️!

My kids school say they still need to come in if they have a cold so maybe that’s why!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 31/03/2022 08:38

Is the child still testing negative?

If the child doesn't have COVID and just has a cold there is no point in keeping him home.

georgarina · 31/03/2022 08:41

If he's still negative it would be an unexcused absence
And she probably needs to rest?

I am not on a WhatsApp group but ds had covid in January, I have just tested positive for covid and ds was unwell Monday, we kept him off but he and dh both testing negative, he started coughing so we could get him a pcr and that is still negative so he is back in school as per attendance requirements. Hopefully having had it 2 months ago it is just a cold this time.

DD had covid week before last, I had a bad cold last week, I kept testing for covid but I was negative the whole time. DD has my cold now.

Theyellowflamingo · 31/03/2022 09:03

After tomorrow children will only be expected to be off school if they have a temperature or are actually too unwell to attend (ie the rules pre covid). Once they no longer have a temperature they can come back. There won’t be any tests so no one will know if it’s covid, rhinovirus, flu etc anyway. On that basis every parent I know has pretty much given up on isolation rules over the last couple of weeks.

I wouldn’t keep a child home as a contact if they tested negative and if it’s already going round the class it sounds like this child’s presence isn’t going to make much difference anyway.

If you're ill, stay at home. If your child is ill, keep them at home.

It's really not that difficult to grasp.

My niece and my cousin both had covid at Xmas and both now have it again.

My kids school are really ramping up the attendance message, we are getting numerous emails each week about attendance. They have also replaced the Covid message on the newsletter with a message about the importance of attendance. Covid has been demoted to the tiniest box right at the bottom of the newsletter.

They have made it perfectly clear, unless the child has tested positive, has a temperature, has had sickness/ diarrhea, or they literally cannot get out of bed then they NEED to be in school.

They currently recommend considering getting a test for common Covid symptoms.

Their stance has changed quite dramatically really over the last month.

I’m interested to see what they say with the recent announcement.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 31/03/2022 09:18

I would ask on the group if she has done a LFT on the child.

MargaretThursday · 31/03/2022 09:26

My bil had covid less than 6 weeks ago and now has it again.

Ihaveoflate · 31/03/2022 09:35

I currently have COVID and my child goes to nursery. She has been going in as normal by having a LFT daily (all negative). She had a snotty nose, as do a lot of toddlers this time of year. Nursery are happy for her to go in as long as she's still testing negative, so I assume schools would be as well.

Obviously I'm at home but I'm really not well enough to look after her - maybe it's the same for this school mum?

Not really. Most people go to work through colds etc unless it’s a can’t get out of bed kind of ill. I can’t think of many employers, beyond those in health/social care, that would consider a bad cold/cough a reason to stay at home.

Before covid, as a teacher we would only send children home who were obviously too ill to manage. Colds are commonplace; they’d never be in if they stayed off for them.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 31/03/2022 09:39

I’ve been in the same room as about 7 people separately with covid and it’s rife in my workplace where we share toilets between entire floors, no separate clean eating space so eat and prep food in offices etc so it spreads more I feel. I woke up with terrible sore throat and ear ache, lat flow negative but it took three days for a close colleague to get a positive this week and she has been in all week until it turned positive. So I’m staying off for my own well-being as I’m 7 mos pregnant and for others well-being as if it turns out negative later (going to repeat lat flows) then I’ll feel terrible. However had short shrift from HR dept when I called it in - no positive lat flow then I should be in, probably just a bug etc. workplaces and schools are obsessed with people coming in now with bugs and spreading it AS LONG as it’s not covid !

Blueeyedgirl21 · 31/03/2022 09:39

Turns positive later I should say
