Will I get into trouble ???

So basically I was overpaid last month. I informed the manager to let them know I got paid for more hours than I did and their response was it's fine I won't tell if u don't. I responded are sure I won't get into trouble later on? She replied it's completely fine don't worry about it.

Now should I be worried ? Can I get into trouble later on?

Keep a record of the message

Was that conversation verbal or in writing?

yummymummy1230 · 30/03/2022 18:50

We spoke over email so I have written confirmation

Put the money aside and don't spend it.
Then if they ask for it back you're covered.
Keep the emails safe.

CharlotteRose90 · 30/03/2022 18:53

No you won’t get into trouble. But they’ll either ask for the money back or take the money out of this months wage so be prepared for it.

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/03/2022 18:57

Yes you could get into trouble.

The emails don't actually help you. Whilst they demonstrate you have reported this to your line manager and that your line manager has told you to keep quiet about it - they also evidence that you know this is wrong and are essentially agreeing to go along with it.

Essentially the emails provide all the evidence your employer needs to discipline/dismiss you both.

I really think that you need to contact your payroll department and let them know. Whether you whistle blow on your line manager or not is up to you.

yummymummy1230 · 30/03/2022 18:58

@MajorCarolDanvers The manager is actually the director of the company that's why i contacted her directly to say they've over paid and I didn't do the hours they paid me for. That's why I'm quite confused that she was happy for me to keep the money

You need to speak to payroll ASAP. Your mangers' behaviour is appalling, IMO.

Someone, somewhere will notice and you'll be expected to pay it back.

TabithaTittlemouse · 30/03/2022 19:00

The emails are just proof of being deceitful and I think you could both get in trouble.
Can you contact payroll and question the payment?

yummymummy1230 · 30/03/2022 19:01

I have just emailed her back to say I will let payroll know about the overpayment just incase there are any issues later on. But she is the director of the company so I assumed it was her call. I did my duty and informed them of the over payment.
