To think some foxes are clever little buggers

Was up at 3am and heard foxes scrabbling around the bins a neighbour had put out early.

I stood at the window and watched one use his/her nose to push the handle of the food recycling bin up and over and then tip the bin so they could open it to get at the food inside. Picture of type of bin added.

I know they cause loads of mess, but I did think he/she deserved their spoils!

Read Ben Aaronovitch. He knows just how clever foxes are!

Not called wiley for nothing!

My favourite fox story was when I was waiting for a train one winter's evening at an urban but small unmanned station, a fox crossed the railway using a footbridge whilst simultaneously a group of teenagers were taking a longer route so that they could wander across the tracks.

MIL is a keen gardener and is currently waging a (humane) war with foxes who dig up her plants.

She put bricks around the stems of young plants to protect the roots from digging. When she got up in the morning, the bricks had been moved, the roots were exposed and sometimes the whole plant had been dug up.

She then took to wrapping scrunched up chicken wire around vulnerable plants and pegging it down, but they somehow managed to remove it to get at the roots. Pointy sticks embedded in the ground around plants, like a miniature stockade, were just pulled out and left on the lawn.

They also bring eggs into her garden to eat them and leave the shells on the lawn. The shells have the lion stamp on them, so we think someone is leaving eggs out for them, but we don't understand why they bring them to MIL's to eat, or how they manage to get over at least 2 fences while carrying them.

They are definitely clever. And beautiful, I love them.

The foxes here are well known for stealing what the milkman leaves out...

They are incredibly adaptable, they would never have survived otherwise.

Love that @Nicholethejewellery!

My partner has a ring video cam in his garden and we love seeing the fox action each morning from the night before, and whether they've snaffled our offerings or turned their snout up.

The fox has learned not to get too close to the visiting hedgehog Smile

Yes, YABU. They’re ALL clever little buggers.
