Should I be worried? Abnormal cervix stuff

Went to GP with heavy periods a few months back (last year). She had a look at my cervix and saw a cyst type thing there. She wasn’t concerned but said she’d bring me back in a few weeks to see if it had changed. When I went back around 12 weeks later she found more cysts and referred me to gynae but said she didn’t think it was anything worry about. Gynae knocked it back which delayed the whole thing so gp asked another doctor to look and give a second opinion. Doctor said it all looked fine, absolutely nothing to worry about.

Gynae eventually gave me an appointment which was today. She had a look, said she didn’t see anything too worrying but said their was some erosion, something about inside cells being on the outside (??!!) and said there was a white area that she’d like to get a closer look at but said she wasn’t concerned, just wanted to be 100% sure they were not missing anything.

So I’ve been referred for a colposcopy

I had a clear smear test just after Christmas.

Should I be concerned?? This has been going on for months now, if it is something dodgy there has been a hell of a lot of time wasted …

Hi OP, can’t comment on if you should be concerned but the fact your smear came back as clear not long ago is a really good sign. When you go for your colposcopy they will more than likely perform a biopsy to test the area of concern (it isn’t painful). Your results will then determine what the outcome is. I know it is hard not to worry but you really do just need to wait on those results and go from there. Best of luck :)

Cervical erosion (or ectropian) is fairly common, and not harmless. Essentially cells that should be growing inside the cervix have started to grow at the entrance to the cervix. Nothing particularly to worry about but they can be sensitive and so if you had sex you may see some spotting. Erosion is treated by ‘freezing’ the cells using a silver nitrate stick. It doesn’t hurt and is a quick procedure. I had mine done a good 15 years ago and haven’t had a problem since Smile

Omg it IS harmless I meant! Sorry Bear

Also - nabothian cysts are also fairly common. They are benign, nothing to worry about Smile
