Look, I know lots of you will think I'm an old curmudgeon, but I feel like I take my life in my hands every day at pick-up time (DS runs from car into school alone in the morning).

Getting thru' the gate, and along the pathways into the small pick-up courtyard is a nightmare, with pre-schoolers careering about on scooters and tricycles, and the occasional kid tottering about on rollerblades or heelies, esp as there are also so many pushchairs about.

You hear the ocasional "be CAREFUL Callum", but most of the mums are so busy chatting they just ignore their likkle darlings belting me in the back of the ankles.

I have been run into more times than I can say, how I haven't actually fallen over is only due to a miracle. It's only a matter of time before one of the littlies gets hurt.

I am seriously thinking of raising this matter at my next governors meeting. Will I be stoned?

YANBU They were banned at my kids old school but many parents did not stick to the ban and they didn't (or couldn't) enforce it. Anyway, the minute you get out the gate they just zoom up the road along with all the big cars driving up on to the pavement. DS got knocked over once (by a 6 yo on a scooter) and I told the mum who was walking in front of them who just shrugged although my 3 yo was sobbing and hurt. I am so glad we moved and got to a new school. It doesn't really happen here and cars are blocked from the entry road to school, so nice.

oh I didn't read the bit where they were charging into the back of you with their scooters, of course that not OK. I'd be tempted to shout OUCH at the top of my voice if this happened to me, just to make my point LOL. And then I'd give the mother a mouthful, but that's just me.

Still don't think they should be banned from the playground though. It's like banning cars from certain areas just because some of the car drivers are irresponsible.

Califrau, no one has said they want them not to scoot/ride to school. We are talking about in the playground only.

At my son's old school in England there were 3 gates with narrow paths by which everyone had to enter the school. It's cramped enough with people and pushchairs without scooters and bikes being ridden too. They left them at the gate and their mums took them home, or older children pushed their bikes to the bike racks and parked them.

Before this rule I regularly had my ankles sliced.

I assume there are schools with different entry gates which make it less of a problem but I think in most cases riding bikes and scooters on the school premises is the cause of too many minor injuries.

Banned at DDs school inside the school gates for a number of reasons.
