To ask about overflow poo?

Tigofigo · 28/03/2022 19:44

If your child has experienced this...

What was the overflow poo like, was your child able to hold it in and how often did it happen?

Sorry for the poopy question but I need some info 💩

Overflow is usually watery and can be incontinent. Never experienced it with a child though, only elderly patients.

gluenotsoup · 28/03/2022 20:03

Usually quite liquid or custard like in my experience. Are they having movicol?

fiftyandfat · 28/03/2022 20:05

Look at the ERIC website.

Theunamedcat · 28/03/2022 20:06

Second the Eric website lots of good facts on there

Be cautious about sharing information about your child to an anonymous stranger.

If you're on Facebook, join "movicol mummies". An absolute wealth of knowledge and solidarity.

navydear · 28/03/2022 20:09

They have no control of it because the hard stool is sitting in their bowel and has obviously stretched the bowel while it sits there. Peristalsis is the name for the muscles in your bowel contracting and squeezing poo down. So overflow poo will
Be pushed down and it can seep around the hard stool.
There is no control of this as the hardened stool is sitting there with the bowel stretched open so it can't squeeze to stop it.
Very common in children who are constipated

Andacherryonthetop · 28/03/2022 20:09

My child has suffered with chronic constipation since 12 months. Now 6 and a half. She has movicol daily. She has often had overflow when she has been quite constipated. It is usually very runny and she has no control over it. She can have it once a day or when she’s been really bad- 5 or 6 times and needing to put on a pull up. We are under the continence team who are great. She is getting there now and is having much fewer accidents

The video here explains it really well.

Yes this. Not saying OP is a poo troll but poo trolls will be reading and getting off on this.
Andacherryonthetop · 28/03/2022 20:22

Omg I did not know poo trolls exist. What is wrong with people?!

LilyMumsnet · 28/03/2022 20:25

Hi all

We've received a few reports about this thread.

We just wanted to let you know that OP has been on the site for some years now, and so we don't believe that they are trolling (though we never can tell for sure - sorry OP!)

Please do share with caution!

Tigofigo · 28/03/2022 23:13

Thanks MNHQ and sorry I had no idea poo trolls with poo kinks were a thing!

I promise I'm not getting off on this (or on cleaning poo out of my DC pants)

Basically I'm pretty sure my DC has other continence issues not overflow poo. Since trying movicol however (we have now stopped) his continence issues are worse than ever. He has no other signs of constipation, just lack of getting to loo on time. His poo can occasionally be a bit loose but not watery. (sorry if tmi) mostly "normal".

Anyway I'll check out those pages please feel free to close thread @mnhq if poo troll is a worry

I would see if your gp can refer you to the paediatric continence team. My daughter is under ours and they are so knowledgable and helpful
