If you were a nursery supply worker and one of the other workers snapped at you to sing to the children while they themselves were changing nappies?

I think more explanation is needed

ChocolateIsAlwaysTheAnswer · 26/03/2022 22:16

Children, supply worker and nursery worker were all in the room. Nursery worker was getting frustrated as they were all in the nappy changing area and the kids were crying. Supply was talking to them but went a bit quiet so was told to sing to the kids and that she couldn't have them crying as parents were about to collect the kids.

When you say snapped what did she actually say?

It sounds like she was busy changing nappies and asked you to keep the other children entertained, I don’t see the issue tbh.

LoudingVoice · 26/03/2022 22:18

Oh it was the kids she was changing who you were asked to sing to?

Sounds like she needed some support and asked for you help.

ChocolateIsAlwaysTheAnswer · 26/03/2022 22:24

Wasn't me, but witnessed it.
Supply was upset as she felt she was being spoken to rudely. There were other incidents leading up to it which I did not see though.

So they were more concerned the parents would hear than that the dc were upset?
Def would be speaking to someone above them to share concerns.

pinkstripeycat · 26/03/2022 22:27

Of course it’s unreasonable to snap.
Nursery work is pressured at times and the nursery worker should have been more professional

Obviously depends on the tone of voids used but it sounds more like the member of staff needed some support and felt the supply staff member wasn’t contributing much to resolve the situation so made a suggestion.
LoudingVoice · 26/03/2022 22:29

Tone of voice! Not voids…

FreezyFreezy · 26/03/2022 22:30

You tend to develop a thick skin as a supply teacher/nursery nurse/t.a./whatever because some places seem to see you as somehow less important or worse at your job than the permanent members of staff and that you're an unavoidable waste of money; some things do get to you though, especially if someone snaps at you or tears strips off you in front of others. I'm not unusual in saying that those are the places I go to once and refuse to go to again.

ChocolateIsAlwaysTheAnswer · 26/03/2022 22:31

Supply tried to entertain children with some toys from a basket but was told rudely she could not get them out. Then she showed them a soft toy that was on the side but was snapped at and told that it belonged to a specific child and shouldn't be touched/needed to be put back in the bag. That she should just sing to the kids. That was also what I saw.

You keep saying ‘snapped’, but the things being said all sound pretty reasonable. Tone and so on is all pretty subjective.

FreezyFreezy · 26/03/2022 22:44

Sounds like that member of staff is an arsehole tbh.

Sounds fine to me.
Kanaloa · 26/03/2022 22:48

I’m a bit confused as to what actually happened. A member of staff was changing a child in the changing area and all the other kids plus a supply worker were all in the area with them with all kids crying? How many kids?

Poorly managed nurseries will often result in issues between staff. One member of staff with an unknown supply worker will lead to the children feeling out of place. It all sounds like a bad day. If the supply worker feels they were treated badly throughout the day you can usually speak to your agency saying I don’t want to go to x nursery. I’ve done this when I did agency work with places I’m not happy to return to.

BobHadBitchTits · 27/03/2022 07:54

Is this the same place you're always moaning about?
