Hate my short hair, not sure what to do

I go through stages of growing and cutting it again for some reason, but I don't know why I have it so short, it would look so much nicer long.

I have it done at different salons depending, I ask the hairdressers for volume and shape in my cut. It usually looks great for around a week then goes back to being a flat shapeless mushroom that is short.
All the hairdressers tell me that I have a lot of hair/very thick hair, which is good, but any pixie cut ends up sitting flat even if i use products etc. It just never looks like it did at the salon.

I had a long fringe but it just ended up lank and greasy every day from touching it. I cut it myself, bad idea, now it's far too short and has little tufts. A hairdresser neatned it up but ultimate it has to grow.
It's only just over the top of my ear on one side so I face a good few months trying to grow it into at least a short bob.
I just scrape it back every day with an alice band which looks bad too, no style at all and just flat on my head.

Sorry for moaning i know there are worse issues in life but I hate looking in the mirror.

I do think short hair looks amazing on women but with me it just looks rubbish and flat after one week

Try and leave it alone now.

Mooo111 · 26/03/2022 19:23

I've decided I'm growing it long, it will surely look a lot better on me. Any advice from anyone who's had the same thing on how to look better

Yeah i will, I've been through so many points of growing it, hating that awful in between stage then cutting it off but I need to have willpower

Get a hat? I'd leave it for a few months before tidying it up now

Mooo111 · 26/03/2022 19:27

Sadly won't be allowed one at work but good idea!
I agree it would be silly to trim it again

Just wear lots of wide head bands and head scarves until its long enough to tie up then learn a few short hair up does.
I have grown out 2 pixies in my life so I feel your pain.

Mooo111 · 26/03/2022 19:29

I think the headscarves are a good idea, I just find the headbands make everything look very flat and round.
It'll probably be a good several months before the hair grows past my ear and I can at least have a short bob

The answer is to stop cutting it! I did the same years ago and was really upset and regretted it and won’t do it again!

carefullycourageous · 26/03/2022 19:30

Someone at my work wears those forties fabric tie headband things, they look great.

Mooo111 · 26/03/2022 19:31

I do need to stop cutting it, I'll just have to deal with the awful growing out stage
I'll look into those fabric things :)

Could you try putting small clips in your hair in different places? Or is it too short for that.?Or try wearing different style earrings.

Elphame · 26/03/2022 19:34

Mine is really really thick too and I've cycled through long and short hair and always hated it.

An undercut has been truly life changing for me. I've lost 50% of the volume which make it manageable at last.

StoneofDestiny · 26/03/2022 19:42

With thick hair, I've been given lots of pixies over the years - liked them, but need constant trimming. However over lockdown my hair grew..........so I went to a new hairdresser who didn't know what my 'go to style' was and I now have non layered thick hair thanks to new advice - so much easier to look after.

pandarific · 26/03/2022 19:47

…wild idea op, but if you have it short maybe bleach it and do a bright non-natural colour? Then when you get bored with the brights and it’s getting a little longer just go over it with a semi permanent close to your root colour?

I have fine hair, it’s always flat, I just accept that and have fun with the colour.
