How can I stop this destructive eating?

Llamasally · 26/03/2022 18:18

I decided to do 16:8 as the latest attempt to regain my figure - baby is 1 - ate a bigger lunch, was all set.

Kids screaming at tea time, ate one of their buns with an inch of salted butter on, 5 biscuits and a cup of tea with sugar in. This happens at least every week in some variation.

I’m 2 stone too heavy and can’t seem to do anything about it. I’m disgusted in myself. How can I stop? Has anyone got past this destructive mindset and can give me some kind of magic trick??

my magic trick has been the weightless injectable Saxenda. inject daily

you need to be a certain bmi though, not that easy to get prescribed. and expensive

but i dont care,'m now on it and hunger has gone. i've been on almost 2 weeks and lost 10lbs. thats my 'magic trick'

Merryoldgoat · 26/03/2022 18:41

@SaxendaSummer

Could you explain - does it stop the cravings? Make you feel full?

I’m seeing the weight loss clinic soon as I curious about the options.

BlackcurrantTea · 26/03/2022 18:48

OP I have no solutions but lots of sympathy as I'm in an identical boat - 2 stone overweight, 1 year old, and it's daft overeating that's the issue. I can eat perfectly most of the day and then I feel stressed or down and will just randomly consume a couple of slices of bread and butter or a big spoon of peanut butter straight from the jar, while knowing I'll only hate myself more after doing it. Wish I knew how to stop! My self esteem has never been so poor.

Llamasally · 26/03/2022 18:50

@SaxendaSummer can you buy it and bypass needing to be over a certain BMI do you know?

@BlackcurrantTea I know, I feel the same, it’s so stupid 😥 it makes me feel pathetic

The only thing that stops me from constantly snacking and eating huge meals is Saxenda. Luckily I'm very sensitive to it and am managing on half the starting dose. So I'm injecting 0.3. I feel really full on eating a small amount.

You are asked your weight on an online form. I was truthful as I'm huge, but you may need to quote your highest weight. Some online pharmacies want your GP's details and some don't. Some will allow you to buy and others refuse you. You need to shop around for the best deal too.

angelsandinsects · 26/03/2022 19:00

I can't really offer tips as I ended up eating a creme egg this afternoon but, when I had a 3yo and a 1yo and was trying to lose the baby weight, I had either a fun size packet of smarties or a crumpet with butter at about 4/4.30pm each day with a cup of tea. That then set me up to get through their tea time etc and had given me something to look forward to if we'd been having one of those afternoons.

glebaisaword · 26/03/2022 19:05

Perhaps the fasting style diets aren't the right sort for your lifestyle? I would find it hard too in a situation with food and stress and end up breaking the fast instantly. I did low carb to lose a couple of stone and found that snacking on high protein things stopped me going for the sweet stuff which is always my downfall. I have tried every diet under the sun but for the fasting ones it felt like setting myself up to fail!

Newgirls · 26/03/2022 19:08

Your baby is so young give yourself a break x

It will be so much easier when you can sleep more, rest more. Make sure you nourish yourself with vegetables, protein etc and it will get easier x

amorningperson · 26/03/2022 19:19

Hey! I feel for you, was in the same boat after 1st DC. Best thing I ever did was drop all the diets, I gained weight at first but then slowly found my ‘set point weight’ naturally without torturing myself. There’s a great IG called ‘freewithbrid’ she has a podcast all about food freedom, bingeing etc. I know it’s not a quick fix but it’s the only thing I’ve ever done that actually has worked long term which was to stop hating my body, eat all foods, and eventually I started eating things that made me feel good (I still have loads of choccies etc, pregnant right now so it’s a bit different but yeah). I wouldn’t try that injectable thing sounds dodgy as h* to me, those accounts sound like advertisers.

trilbydoll · 26/03/2022 19:23

I've always found it impossible to resist the kids' years if I'm hungry - I eat with them 90% of the time, always have done. Eating earlier is better for weight loss anyway and if I'm tempted to raid the cupboard at 9pm I just go to bed!

poppymaewrite · 26/03/2022 19:34

More fuit veg beans and lentils with your food

HeyItsPickleRick · 26/03/2022 19:36

Maybe intermittent fasting isn't right for you if you're tempted by the kids food. What about instead timing meals for right before they eat and making sure you fill up on whole foods before you feed them? Or making sure you have a smoothie or something to sip on?

It also sounds like you're in a bit of an all or nothing mentality, so rather than just having a bun and enjoying it you chucked down the five biscuits too. In reality having a bun or a couple of biscuits once a day won't keep the weight on if part of a wholesome diet.

I'm on baby three now and still 10kg overweight but with baby two I mostly got it off with walking at least 1.5 hours a day. Now I have been using the peloton once they're all in bed or at 5am before they wake up. It's hard!

Dixiechickonhols · 26/03/2022 19:39

More protein and veg works for me. You need to eat enough protein in day so you aren’t hungry. Eggs, chicken, kvarg/skyr.

Carpy899 · 26/03/2022 19:42

Don't have the things like biscuits in the house. The effort of making a special journey to get some shite is enough to put me off because I'm lazy!

Runworkeatsleeprepeat · 26/03/2022 19:48

Google Anna Wallace, the weight loss Academy her podcast is amazing. I joined one of her resets and it has been amazing. Resets your eating and she gives so many tips on overcoming emotional eating etc
Spent most of my adult life on some kind of diet yoyoing up and down. I'm back to a healthy weight now and eat normally, don't weigh myself and feel amazing and in control.

DarkCorner · 26/03/2022 19:50

I have a 1 yr old too and low carbed for a while. I really feel it reset my system and hormones from “need sugar!!” Mode. I had sone time off over Christmas (although still tried not to go too mad) and still lost 3 lbs somehow! I’m sort of at the point of maintaining now although might like to lose another few lbs and tone up a bit. It takes a bit of a while to get used to but is worth doing. I also carried on drinking wine 🙈

Onionbhajisandwich · 26/03/2022 19:50

If I’m starving when the kids eat I have carrot or cucumber sticks otherwise I struggle not to eat everything in sight. I’ve been considering trying saxenda. The reviews seem a bit mixed though. I have about 5 stone to lose.

I've seen it for sale for £47, is that about the daily cost?
Sillyotter · 26/03/2022 21:14

I was 2 stone overweight last summer and also had a bad relationship with food that mostly involved overeating and binging.

The only thing that fixed it for me was hiring a nutritionist and working with her to slowly lose weight. I’m set calorie and macro limits which have been slowly reduced to encourage weight loss. I can eat whatever I want as long as I stick to the targets.

I’ve lost just over a stone in 9 months. It’s been very slow and as an impatient person it’s been a real learning curve. But because it’s forced me to become more aware of nutrition it’s changed my relationship with food completely.

Being held accountable and being allowed to lose at my own pace has been the key

StarCourt · 26/03/2022 21:59

I keep reading about Saxenda but it seems so expensive

Llamasally · 27/03/2022 07:25

Is that Saxenda pen cost per day?!? 😮

OP posts:
THisbackwithavengeance · 27/03/2022 07:50

Just googled saxenda and it looks like £47 per one injection per day. Bloody hell.

I can't imagine my GP will prescribe it either.

OP, the only thing that stops cravings for me is keto. It's a boring, soulless diet though and you have to be ultra organised.

I feel your pain though. My own eating habits are currently shocking. I haven't even got the excuse of young children.
