To consider joining a political party?

I've been frustrated about being politically homeless for a while but started thinking recently that maybe I should join a party and try to have more of a voice than just voting every 5 years.

Are you a member of a party (any)? Is it one of the mainstream ones or more fringe? Do you feel you've been able to have influence? I don't necessarily mean as a candidate/councillor/MP but any role within the party. I don't really know the different types of roles other than the visible ones like candidates and doorknock campaigners.

YABU = waste of time
YANBU = it's worth it, go for it!

Member of a party here. Fairly mainstream but not one of the big 2! Besides doorknocking I have done telling outside polling stations on election days, phone canvassing prior to elections, been a “paper” candidate in a local election, attended counts to help oversee proper procedure. There are lots of events you can go to if you want, including conference which gives you a chance to take part in decision making and policy formation. DM used to be a constituency case worker for an MP. I would say that the option is there to get as involved as much or as little as you want.
