To think that my manager shouldn't be telling my colleagues this?

I tested positive for COVID so couldn't go into the office for a meeting. I messaged my manager to let her know. I didn't tell anyone else the specific reason, I just said I was unwell.

A colleague then brought up that I had had COVID. The only way they would have known is if my manager had told him.

I don't really care and it was never a secret. I'm quite new to the company too for context. I guess it's just made me second guess what I can tell my manager.

(Also I hadn't been to the office for 2+ weeks when I tested positive so it's not like my colleagues needed to know they had been in contact with me)

Let's face it. Reasons why other colleagues are off sick is often the worst kept secret in the workplace. Not condoning it but very often everyone ends up knowing why someone else is off.

You clearly do care as you’re now thinking they can’t be trusted and you’re starting a thread on it, so you care very much.

For most people, she’s off with Covid would not be considered a secret or an issue and wouldn’t think twice about it. It’s not like saying they are off with cancer or a miscarriage. It is like saying they have th cold or flu.

Doesn’t matter if everywhere does it. What a shit barometer that is.

My manager never tells the rest of the team why someone is off, unless they are happy for everyone else to know. I thought that was the norm, clearly not...

It is the bloody norm. It should be objective or else where does it end. I had a line manager talking about how I could have fertility treatment to have kids in the staff room! I had been off with a cold and don’t have kids due to carrying a cardiac defect! You have to have a bar or else it’s all a slippery slope.
