Baby bags

Looking for a rucksack style baby bag to wear whilst taking my baby on a walk in the carrier. Is there really and difference between a normal rucksack and a "baby bag" style rucksack?! Feels like they're so expensive for not much difference. Any recommendations?! Thanks

I found a normal backpack did the job perfectly well, though by the second DC it was a nappy, nearly empty wipes pack and sleepsuit squeezed into my coat pocket for walks and shorter outings.

This is true! But for now he still needs bottles and formula etc - he's DC2 so I'm not precious but he's so different to DC1 who never wanted to be held and always wanted to be in the buggy so the bag was always shoved under and we never got to do muddy country walks.

I think the main difference is they have the insulated pocket for the bottle.

I guess that must be why. Seems silly really. Some of them are over £100!

I had a small rucksack from Decathlon with my first, then upgraded it to a bigger version with my second. Reasonable price, lightweight and hard wearing Smile

I bought a normal rucksack and then bought the ‘feeding pod’ from pacapod for the insulated pouch that just slots into my rucksack/handbag or under the pram (they do a ‘changing pod’ too but I think it’s just a pouch with a changing mat in so I didn’t really see the point).

InDubiousBattle · 25/03/2022 15:32

I went through several baby bags! Started with a messenger style one that hooked over the buggy handle. Carrying it made my shoulder ache and it kept slipping down the buggy handle. Second was a Pacapod which cost a stupid amount of money and was more bag than space IYSWIM. It didn't actually hold much. Third was a cheap rucksack, I didn't like that one because it wasn't water proof and everything got sort of mixed up inside it(it didn't have any compartments at all, just a main bag).
Ended up with a Jeep rucksack from TK Max which was great. When dd came along 19 months after ds I got another , bigger one so that I had a little one for baby groups etc and a bigger one for full days out.

I think a normal one if fine and you can use it longer. You can always get an individual bottle insulator if necessary

LabelMaker · 25/03/2022 15:34

Normal one is fine. Just check out the pocket situation and also some bags have a changing mat that fits nicely inside

MarshmallowsOnToast · 25/03/2022 15:52

I have one this style & see so many other parents out and about with the same.

Opens really wide & has a million pockets.

I started off with a full blown changing bag full of pockets etc but eventually got so fed up with it I now use one of my other children's old rucksacks!

SockQueen · 25/03/2022 16:36

@crackersforcheese

I also have this one. Spacious inside and LOADS of pockets for nappies (when I bought it I needed two sizes), wipes, cream, sunglasses/hats, spare clothes, snacks, bibs etc. Plus one for all my bits like purse, keys and and so on. I like it!

Realised for DC2 that a normal rucksack functions just fine 😄

DappledThings · 25/03/2022 16:44

Normal backpack. I spent £15 on one from Sports Direct and it did the job fine.

@crackersforcheese

I have this too, although I think a bit bigger. I had a smaller one for my first DC but this was great for both. I still use it for days out as it holds loads. I do like baby bags to have lots of pockets
