To think that the apprentice business will fail because these prices are ridiculous?!

I was having a look at apprentice winner Harpreet's new website - ohsoyum.co.uk - this morning and oh my I am shocked!

  • £16 for a box of 6 brownies or £30 for 12
  • £19.50 for 4 cookie cups or £38 for 8

Surely these prices cannot be right? I know these fancy dessert/treat places are normally more expensive but surely these prices are too high?

AIBU? Would you spend the money on these treats?

I would have liked Aaron to win - he seemed like a really nice guy and his business plan sounded realistic and sensible.

Fizbosshoes · 26/03/2022 13:23

Aaron designed a toothbrush that looked like a poo. I'm amazed he got as far as he did!🤣🤣

(Admittedly I'm not sure his business plan was anything to do with poo-like toothbrushes!)

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 26/03/2022 14:36

Surely the candidates must know what name they want before the filming even starts?

Friendofdennis · 26/03/2022 14:41

I’ve perfected my brownie making over the years (good quality chocolate, butter, ground almonds etc ) and they are deliciously intense and squidgy. It costs £6 to make 16.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2022 14:49

@ThinWomansBrain

what did happen to the "elephant in the room" sister? the interview episode it was a big concern final episode - not a whisper

A case of anything to avoid the dog pyjamas?
I also love the "ask the industry expert" concept
"so, Mr Cyberjammies, what do you think of a new competitor that's had a shedload of free TV publicity & quarter if a million chacked at it?"

"Oooh, crowded market, I wouldn't if I were you"

Ha good point re competition. I also wondered if he’d go into dog pjs

Sister issue would be fine imo they can just have another agreement

£3 for a sticker sheet!

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 26/03/2022 15:58

a family member is a cake maker and makes good money out of it.

its done in the home after her day job so not a shop or business premises

she uses either organic or good quality ingredients.

im saying this as there is a difference in taste between smart price butter etc and the organic version(i was her taste tester when she started out, she did all the cheapest possible and then the dearest possible)

even with the top ingredients she can knock those up for 3/4 of that price.

who ever that persons (i haven't a clue who your talking about as i dont watch those type of shows)is severely overcharging

ThinkForAMinute · 26/03/2022 17:18

Am I right in thinking she doesn’t even make the goods herself?

Dizzywizz · 26/03/2022 21:38

Yeah I found that confusing @ThinkForAMinute - they didn’t seem to address it. At first I assumed she was the baker, then she mentioned suppliers who provide them

Hearwego · 26/03/2022 21:45

What I don’t get is what’s the point in the tasks , if it’s boils down to the two finalists business plans?
I mean, someone who got fired during the process might have had the best business proposition. They may have been crap at tasks, but had a brilliant business idea.

The old Apprentice format was that the winner for a job working for Alan Sugar.
I just wonder what the point in all the tasks is, if it’s all about a business plan.
I’ve also noticed that the last few series, Lord Sugar has backed food businesses.

Maybe he's found that all these preening overgroomed idiots that appear on the programme are useless and he doesn't want to employ any of them any more?

I've never watched The Apprentice apart from one episode where they sent them all to Malta and they were all so annoying I couldn't even get through that one.

Diplidocus4 · 27/03/2022 07:01

I have a friend living near the Ridiculously Rich by Alana base , you can buy the cookies / brownies etc on the Too Good To Go app .....

The prize became a business after one winner quit the job, claiming it was all for show and she had nothing to do, and court cases ensued.

I'll be honest, if I was being offered 100k a year to do fuck all, I'd take it. And once home working became established....

DrSbaitso · 27/03/2022 08:48

Business investment. Phone eats words.

To make good TV!

I love it, always have, but I've never considered it an actual test of business acumen that presents a realistic picture of running a company. It's just a business-themed game show. It's great fun. I love the creative side of it, seeing what they come up with, and it's well edited so it's very funny.

Hoppinggreen · 27/03/2022 09:29

It’s not about Business at all, it’s an entertainment show
They pick candidates that will make good viewing. A good friend of mine auditioned a few years ago. As it happens she is an excellent Business woman but apparently they were much more interested in her personal life and how she would appear on TV. She probably would have had the right look and ultimately she might have been offered a place but she dropped out due to childcare issues before the final stages so who knows?
She said that the process certainly wasn’t mainly focussed on her Business skills though

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/03/2022 09:38

I love the apprentice because it's very similar to my job. Won't explain how but my boss swoops in every so often and gives me such random tasks that my skill set is now very diverse.

I think I'd be great on the show! But I have no desire to start my own business or launch a new career. I'd just enjoy doing the challenges.

NoSquirrels · 27/03/2022 09:39

Didn’t click on this thread until I’d watched the final as it could fairly have been either of those businesses that were overpriced!

I reckon this was a case of avoiding the most costly mistake and choosing the one it’s most possible to walk away from! Perhaps there will be ‘legal issues’ with the sister preventing it going further, etc. Seemed pretty clear to me he didn’t want to invest in a business where all the upfront money would go on stock (pyjamas) so ‘investing’ in baked goods at least has the advantage of not tying your cash up. And he’s fine baked goods before with Alana so there’ll be a lot of them just siphoning off that business plan to reuse - doubt Harpreet will get too much say in the end.

They were all shit in the end! I do love it as entertainment though and to watch with my teen.
