To go to view a house with asymptomatic Covid?

MNCovidQn · 25/03/2022 10:41

DH feels one way and I feel another so I am interested to see what MN thinks. If we did go:

  • The house is currently lived in but would be empty at time of viewing
  • We would wear masks
  • We wouldn’t touch anything.

So, hive mind, would we BU to view?

I wouldn’t. You don’t know the circumstances of the vendor.

GodspeedJune · 25/03/2022 10:43

Really selfish to do this. I’m sure if you told the vendors they’d say no.

umpkj · 25/03/2022 10:48

Who would be showing the house? Maybe they would be against.

TheMarvelousMrsMaisel · 25/03/2022 10:54

YABU and selfish.

ItsSnowJokes · 25/03/2022 10:54

I would go nuts as a seller if I found out the estate agent had let someone in who had covid. You don't know the family situation and if they are very vulnerable etc.......

Send husband if it's you with covid or vice versa. You don't both have to go.

Mirrorball2022 · 25/03/2022 10:55

No this is selfish. What about the estate agent doing the viewing?

gannett · 25/03/2022 11:01

Obviously you shouldn't, but it's not us you should be asking - it's the vendors and the estate agent (and anyone else you might be coming into contact with).

If you feel uncomfortable messaging them to ask "is it OK if we rock up to the viewing with covid" then perhaps think about why.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/03/2022 11:02

So unreasonable @MNCovidQn how could you possibly think otherwise?

I know we are opening up but we really need people to use good judgement on these things and that is very irresponsible- viewing a house is not something you have to do-it is entirely optional

MNCovidQn · 25/03/2022 11:04

Thanks all! I knew I was right

The person who is up for the viewing says that Covid cannot spread in an empty house..

gannett · 25/03/2022 11:04

Oh and before the "treat it like the flu, we have to live with it" crew start - I wouldn't go to a house viewing if I had the flu, norovirus or any other contagious and potentially nasty illness, either.

Whinge · 25/03/2022 11:06

Have you pointed out to your DH that the house won't be empty. The estate agent will be there. 🤦🏼
DDivaStar · 25/03/2022 11:07

I know you can. But this is some ones home, show some respect. If you are contagiosley unwell you don't visit someone else's house.

SpacePotato · 25/03/2022 11:09

The person with covid is an arsehole.

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 25/03/2022 11:14

Please don't do that.
It would be very unkind to the estate agent and home owners.

DisappearingGirl · 25/03/2022 11:20

It's incorrect that COVID cannot spread in an empty house, as the smaller droplets (aerosols) can collect in the air and hang around.

This risk would be minimised (but not removed completely) by wearing masks and opening windows.

Agree you shouldn't really ... but if both the estate agent and the vendors know and are happy with the situation, I guess it would be less unreasonable!

GlitteryGreen · 25/03/2022 11:24

Na, no way. It's not even fair to expose the estate agent, let alone leave the germs all over someone else's house.

Lunalicious · 25/03/2022 11:26

I am quite relaxed about covid but it is really shitty to go into someone's home knowing you have something contagious without telling them.

Poppy92r · 25/03/2022 11:27

I'd just be straight up with the EA. They may do a virtual viewing with you - i.e take a camera around the property whilst on a zoom call. All EA's were doing that during the 2nd lockdown, so they are geared up for it. You may be able to keep your appointment but just swap to online.

If you really love what you see then you can organise a 2nd viewing when you're testing negative.

P.s we did loads of virtual viewings during the 2nd lockdown and found them really helpful. Infact at one point you HAD to do a zoom viewing before doing a 2nd viewing. It was such a time saver!

MNCovidQn · 25/03/2022 11:29

Thanks all! The virtual viewing is an excellent idea and I will suggest it to DH. Didn’t know they were a thing Smile

Omicron is so transmissible - my son and hubby got it and isolated but I still got it even after wearing an n95 medical grade mask while taking food to them. It’s Easter break soon - not only might you get a vulnerable person sick you might stuff up their holiday. Would be a very selfish thing to do and house won’t be empty - real estate agent will be with you.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 25/03/2022 11:30

@GodspeedJune

Really selfish to do this. I’m sure if you told the vendors they’d say no.
Well I'd say yes.

Just ask OP

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 25/03/2022 11:31

I wouldn't. You don't know whether any of the owners are vulnerable, my DM is extremely vulnerable and I would be furious if someone did this.

SheWoreYellow · 25/03/2022 11:33

Have you both got covid? Can one of you go?

Gardengate45 · 25/03/2022 11:34

I would do a virtual.

What if you unknowingly infected the vendor and they ended up in ICU? That could really delay the house sale.

Topseyt · 25/03/2022 11:36

I would go, and if I were a vendor I would say yes to the visit too.

Testing will no longer be free from 1st April, so many people will not test anymore, and things will return to normal - i.e. if you are ill then don't go, if you are not then fine.
