To think Tony (chocolonely) never dealt with tired kids (lighthearted)

I mean, I get the sentiment and understand what it's trying to prove.

If you have never had one, Tony's chocolonely chocolate bars are "unequally divided" to highlight inequalities of the cocoa trade.

Great. Until you try and get grumpy kids to share!

Your bit is bigger than mine, that means I get 2 - no that's not fair.... etc.

I'm trying hard to buy ethically and avoid palm oil. It's not meant to work this this though!!!

LIGHTHEARTED.

The chocolate is nothing special either. Give me a Dairy Milk any day!

Stath · 25/03/2022 10:26

YANBU.

This is way it’s much fairer for the adults (ie me) to eat it and the children can make do with their individually wrapped, identically sized Lidl chocolate treats.

Ncwinc · 25/03/2022 10:27

Buy the little solid eggs. Ocado has them for £3.19 at the moment.

Best chocolate about these days, Cadburys has barely any chocolate and is just sugar and palm oil.

You could resolve the problem by buying a bar each and giving them and equal sized chunk, then hiding the rest (or eat it yourself).

It always annoyed me that I could never break the bar and ended up with little bits all over the place that melted on to my clothes.

LadyOfMisrule · 25/03/2022 10:49

Given that he was removed from the ethical trading lists for buying his chocolate from suppliers that use child labour, I think he probably knows all about tired kids.

September29th · 25/03/2022 10:49

an not and

@LadyOfMisrule I have read the information about this.

It's not quite as you state.

Tonys source their beans ethically, Barry Callebaut do not.

Unfortunately because Tonys use Barry Callebaut for the processing of their ethically sourced beans, they have been tarred with a guilt by association.

I'm as happy as I can be that they haven't done anything wrong.
And it's not full of palm oil.

But thanks for taking out the "lighthearted" intention of the post.

It’s still not very nice chocolate though.

BeanyBops · 28/03/2022 13:38

Ok it's a lesson in weighing scales? Kids measure out 100g each.

Have you tried the caramel one, it is divine.

Elphame · 28/03/2022 13:44

I must admit I stopped buying it because of the difficulty in breaking it up into easy to eat pieces. I doubt my lack of custom will make any difference though.

YodaLivesOnMySofa · 28/03/2022 13:47

Try Love Cocoa, it tastes how Cadburys used to! Every time I have it I say to DD ‘This is how ALL Cadburys Chocolate used to be like!’
And she just has to take my word for it cos she only knows shit, greasy, palm oil Cadburys.

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2022 13:48

@Marmite27

I could not disagree more with this.

I think it's great. It's rapidly becoming the only chocolate I eat.

I've bought the eggs. They've been in the cupboard for nearly a month waiting for Easter 💪

lifeuphigh · 28/03/2022 14:22

YABU OP, surely the solution is just to eat it all yourself?

FourLittleStars · 28/03/2022 14:24

You need to get on Divine chocolate. It is indeed, divine.

Lidl and Aldi's fair trade chocolate is also absolutely gorgeous.

WhatHaveIFound · 28/03/2022 14:28

Never mind tired kids. Tony obviously hasn't tried sharing a bar with my DH!

The mini bars are easier but I haven't seen them outside of the Netherlands,

TooManyPJs · 28/03/2022 14:35

I think they need to keep the politics out of actually eating the chocolate. Chocolate is supposed to be a luxury treat item and it needs to feel like that (especially at £3.50 a bar!!). I don't want to be thinking about how fucking unfair the world is while I'm trying to make myself feel better by eating chocolate. At Christmas they left one door empty ffs for the same reason. They got a lot of complaints about that including many from parents of kids with SNs.

Their chocolate is lovely but I wish they'd stop trying to politicise through it. I am doing my bit by buying it. I don't need to have a point made through the product itself.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 28/03/2022 14:39

I stopped buying it for the same reason. Tasty but annoying.

FrancescaContini · 28/03/2022 14:40

It’s stupidly over priced and doesn’t taste very special.

Whaaaaaat! It is delicious, how chocolate used to be, I love it.
BoredZelda · 28/03/2022 15:09

Didn’t they have the empty advent calendar too. Definitely not someone who has spent time with kids.

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2022 15:13

Several places local to me sell the mini bars. I'm in rural Norfolk.

And I think with the advent calendar, there were two pieces the next day.

101jobs · 28/03/2022 15:33

Tastes awful. Not worth the price or the effort that goes into breaking it.

Witchesbelazy · 28/03/2022 16:16

Havent forgiven them for the advert calender stunt

Pinklimey · 28/03/2022 17:14

So a company that says the cocoa is not picked by slave children can wash its hands of the chocolate being picked by slave children because they wash that slavery through another company???

I only have one child so never have these fights.
