How many people in real life know you post on Mumsnet? Is it something you keep quite to stay anonymous in real life and not become outed?

Toddlerteaplease · 24/03/2022 19:57

My dad does. Occasionally. He introduced me!

Toddlerteaplease · 24/03/2022 19:58

I'm careful never to whinge about my parents Grin

coffeeisallineed · 24/03/2022 19:59

Haha that's funny

PingPages · 24/03/2022 20:00

Only one, I feel embarrassed about it!

NameChangeCity123 · 24/03/2022 20:01

I don't know a single person in real life who is on here but assuming I know some posters and am just unaware

PuffinMcStuffin · 24/03/2022 20:03

I don't talk about it but I've had other mum's mention it to me, I just play dumb and pretend I've never heard of mumsnet, it's too embarrassing!

Startuplife · 24/03/2022 20:04

None and I wouldn’t tell anyone! It’s funny because I always assume no one i know in real life could possibly be on here (I don’t have any friends with children) but I’m here and childless so perhaps they are too!

Laiste · 24/03/2022 20:05

My DH grown up DDs know i'm on here all the time but no one else.

Twice i have had suspicions that someone i know quite well was a MNer but never asked outright.

SallyLondon · 24/03/2022 20:05

I think my sister-in-law is, and one colleague who has occasionally discussed or shown me things there have been threads on. Neither have ever mentioned Mumsnet though.

Bookaholic73 · 24/03/2022 20:06

I’m not a regular poster on MN, but always change small things in case someone might recognise me.
I’ve changed things like ages of my kids, area in which I live, the job I do.

I’d hate to be recognised by a friend or family member on here.

@SallyLondon

I think my sister-in-law is, and one colleague who has occasionally discussed or shown me things there have been threads on. Neither have ever mentioned Mumsnet though.
Oh sorry, I never answered the question. I have never let on to anyone that I actively post here, but I have told a few people that I "occasionally look".
ItsMeRhondaFromPS129 · 24/03/2022 20:08

I once read a thread about me on here from my husbands ex. She had included too many specifics. I never told her I saw the thread or admitted I was on here, but I took comfort in knowing most people were calling her the unreasonable one

Tittyfilarious · 24/03/2022 20:10

Only Mr titty knows I post on here

EarringsandLipstick · 24/03/2022 20:11

My DC know & endlessly give out to me when I'm distracted & posting on MN instead of doing what they want (like now!)

I'd mention interesting posts in passing to family occasionally. Otherwise never - I feel embarrassed.

It's stupid really as the bit I don't tell people is really how much MN saved me; I found out about emotional abuse & gaslighting here, I saw frank & direct posts about what is not ok in relationships & it was revelatory. My marriage was already over but I figured out so much stuff from MN, especially how relationships can be.

So although I know I time-waste here a lot, I feel MN also rescued me.

Hotelhelp · 24/03/2022 20:12

Funny how so many of us are embarrassed.

I would never admit to it. Have gone as far as admitting I read but that I don't post.

TokyoSushi · 24/03/2022 20:13

Just DH, but he doesn't really understand what it is. Absolutely nobody else, which is surprising as I'm very social, and a big MNetter, I quite like having just one thing that nobody else knows about!

Eek! I can never believe this really happens, but have seen so many examples of this over the years, that I should.

I avoid Craicnet mostly & am v careful of Irish-named or themed posters! It's just too bloody small here. I was able to identify the exact street a poster in Dublin lived on. She didn't even say it was Dublin, but it was a thread about houses / features, and when she mentioned something in particular, I knew instantly where it was, to the door virtually. Poor poster was freaked out.

coffeeisallineed · 24/03/2022 20:15

@ItsMeRhondaFromPS129 that's so interesting. Did you comment on that thread without her knowing?

OP posts:

It's so funny to see how many people are embarrassed of being on here

OP posts:
Ginandtonicbiatch · 24/03/2022 20:15

Yes! I feel MN deserves better than me being a bit embarrassed about it because at a certain time of my life some of the people on here saved my sanity. I still see their names sometimes and mentally i thank them.

ItsMeRhondaFromPS129 · 24/03/2022 20:19

@coffeeisallineed nope, I lurked in the background as I was too scared I'd trip myself up! It was tempting to comment though when other posters were asking her questions about me and the situation and she was responding with lies about me! That was hard!

coffeeisallineed · 24/03/2022 20:20

@ItsMeRhondaFromPS129 sorry to hear that

OP posts:
Hummingbirdcake · 24/03/2022 20:21

Not embarrassed at all.
