Someone stole my DS's school trousers at school

AIBU to believe that some another child has stolen my DS's school trousers?

I don't think it's accidental.DS is in a mainstream school and year eight. He has additional needs. The catchment area covers area's where there's alot of poverty.

DS has a pair of age 12-13 trousers from M&S.I brought them for the fit and quality as DS is skinny and has ripped cheaper trousers at the knees. They have an adjustable waistband which was set on a high setting to accommodate his skinny waist.

He's come home in a pair of really worn age 14-15 years Asda trousers.I think the child these belong too is wearing a pair of hand me down trousers which are too big for them;they definitely would have noticed my DS's trousers were much smaller when putting them on if it was accidental.

The trousers were hung on his peg with the rest of his stuff.DS unfortunately is an easy target due to his additional needs. He has in the past had his PE bag stolen (empty thankfully) and his PE sweater. They were labelled inside and not in long property.

Thé PE changing rooms are the only place his LSA isn't allowed to be with him as she's female.

As the M&S trousers are his only pair at the moment and these other ones are too big I now have no school trousers to send him in tomorrow.

I've decided if this other child is so desperate for a pair of decent trousers then they can have them but I hate the fact that my DS is having things pinched and other children are taking advantage of my DS's vulnerabilities.

YABU - you sound (understandably) very protective of your son but really... kids' uniforms get mixed up all the time.

Queenoftheduvan · 24/03/2022 18:56

How very annoying!
We had a school jumper go missing once, saw one in after school club peg weeks later and checked it,it had my sons name sticker in it. With someone else’s name written over the top Angry

Comedycook · 24/03/2022 18:59

There's 2 clothes sizes difference and the adjustable waist was set tightly. There would have been a noticeable size difference

I have a NT 13 year old Ds...like a lot of teenage boys he walks round in an absolute daze. I can quite imagine him coming home in trousers too small and not even realising. He often brings home the wrong stuff and his friends take his by accident too. I reckon the changing rooms are chaos!

BiggerBoat1 · 24/03/2022 19:01

Much more likely an accident. How strange to assume it was deliberate. Are you sure it was hung up on a peg. Most Yr 8s just step out of stuff and go on their way. Changing rooms are chaos and they have to get ready really really quickly.

My son has come home in too small coats, sweatshirts and shoes before and he is in class where everyone has 1:1 support and is supported with dressing.
School trousers aren't something kids deliberately take.

Label trousers with sewn in woven name tapes, one in waistband and one sewn into inside hem. It’s probably not malice, but carelessness. I had my gym shoes snagged when I left them under the lockers. They came home in two days because they were labeled and way too small for others to wear.

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 24/03/2022 20:33

Why would you assume it was deliberate? Do you really think 11yo boys care about school trousers enough to even notice that one is from M&S and the other Asda? And not noticing clothes that are not the same size also doesn’t surprise me that much, they are just oblivious.

krazykatzlady · 24/03/2022 20:37

My DS x 2 are two years apart....they dress in each others school trousers and have no idea that one has trousers up his ankles, and one has trousers falling down 🤦🏽‍♀️
The school changing room has uniform all over the floor even if your DS insists he hung it on his peg 😉

Buy more uniform...label in marker pen and they might come back to you. Might!

They best bit of covid has been wearing PE to school and not changing in school any more 🥳

thenewduchessoflapland · 24/03/2022 21:00

You lot have made me feel better;I don't know if the LSA noticed;I certainly noticed as he was holding them up.I've since spoken to someone from the school office who's said as its PE by class the other boys in his class will be asked to see if their wearing my DS's trousers.

I know some people think that having only one pair of school trousers is unusual but he's the youngest of four and experience has shown me we don't need lots of uniform when ive a washing machine with a decent quick wash setting;everything gets a full wash at the weekend. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but usually works for us.

Ive another pair of trousers arriving on Saturday and a friend has lent me an old pair of her DS's trousers for tomorrow.I've washed the other pair and will be sending them in tomorrow for DS to hand in at reception.

@thenewduchessoflapland
I have 5 chikdren.....and 5 sets of uniform/PE kits each! One for every day 😜. I only wash wash stuff on the weekend, but mine are either little and covered in paint/lunch.....or teenage boys & smell!

Kids lose stuff - it’s a right of passage. I doubt someone else stole them.
