To wonder about your average wordless score ?

I don’t want to ask on my social media as I know it annoys some friends if people go on about wordle and I don’t wanna be judged. :-D

Kinda curious though about what other people’s average scores are though . Is it mainly threes and fours for you too?

1’s a cheat, 2’s a fluke, 3 or 4 is normal with practise and 5 and 6 are frustrating?

Mostly 3s and 4s, but did have a 2 once (and only once!) but I can't remember which word is was now.

5 - 1/3 of the time
4 - 1/3 of the time
2 or 3 - 1/3 of the time
1 - never

I'm a solid 4 - half the time that is what I get
fairly even split for most of the rest on 3 or 5
1 x 2
2 x 6

My first two words are the ten most common letters so I never get it in less than 3. My average is currently 3.96 because I've had a few 4s recently which took it back up, I was fairly equal between 3s and 4s for a while. I think quordle is changing my tactics, you can't really waste guesses in that so it's about eliminating as many letters as quickly as possible.

I have had a couple of 2, and one 1 because my friend had a go and sent me a screenshot of their results without realising everyone gets the same word.

The couple of 2 have been flukes where my start word was only one letter off

I’ve had a fair few 2s, mainly 3s and 4s. Your starting word will have an impact on your scores.

Mainly threes and fours, I never have a good streak because I forget to play every day.

My most common score is 3. My current stats say:

1 - 0
2 - 2
3 - 27
4 - 14
5 - 8
6 - 1

There is a lot of luck involved, particularly in scores of three or below. I failed for the first time last week. No 'errors' - which I would count as repeating letters already eliminated or failing to reposition letters in the wrong place - there were just too many possibilities. I counted 4 possible correct words in the last slot.

Mine, mostly 4s, a couple of lucky 2s.

DH and I do this together - it's kind of become a post-dinner thing we do together each night now :)

4 or 5 is our norm. We have got it in 3 once, and I don't get bothered if we go to 6 (at that point, I'm just happy that we get it before our chances run out!). Have never got it in 1 or 2.

We do use the same 2 starting words though mostly (we always start with PIOUS, and second word is usually DREAM or CRANE, depending on my mood - means we cover all vowels and eliminate/confirm a few other different letters in the process). DH and I do joke that one day PIOUS will be the word, and we can be happy and claim we got it in one!

You aren't eliminating enough letters early enough. The best way to never fail is to use completely different words for your first two or possibly three attempts. By that point you'll have a good idea what the majority of letters are and what the possible alternative solutions are. You might then need a word to eliminate some of the options.

So, e.g. last week one of the words was cater, a word I got in 3 because my first two words always cover the most popular letters so I then knew all the letters and my third choice was just solving an anagram. However, both my DSis and DM didn't get the letter C in their first couple of attempts. The possible first letter alternatives are w, r, t, p, s, d, g, h, l, c, m. So then they tried consonant heavy words like right or clasp to eliminate their remaining first letter options. If you know a letter is green or yellow early on you can ignore it while you find the other letters, it's not a rule that you have to keep using the letters you know.

I’ve done it in 1 before and it was freaking amazing!

I had a real run of lucky first guesses and have a lot of 2s! My score reset prior to this after the change to the New York Times when I accidentally shut the tab and had to go back on, I was on a streak of about 30 before then with mainly 4s and 5s, And one of my regular starter words came up the other day for my 1 !
Had one fail and very cross about it, one of those stupid ones where I had four letters and many many combos for the fifth letter.

I got in one once, the word was light, no idea why I went with that as a first guess. Thought I must have psychic powers but it’s never happened again since. I’ve got it in 2 guesses 3 times but mostly in 4

I got it in one within the first few days of playing (it was light).
Absolutely amazing but kind of ruined it now really as nothing matches that high 🤣
Also like worldle which I also got in one today. And my geography knowledge is terrible!

DP got it in one as well with LIGHT, must be a popular starting word!
