DD is 9 years old today and at 3pm 8 of her friends are coming round for tea. I have got out the chocolate fountain, drinks fountain, kareoke machine and dance mat, pinata and balloon drop and my 3 are so hyper and excited already - I dread to think what it will be like by 3.15.

Oh, and DH has just discovered the kareoke machine doesn't work and is off to buy a spare mike leaving me too it.

I don't think my nerves can take much more, I'm gonna have to get drunk.

I hope none of my dd friends who are coming to the party are ready this now!!!!!!! Coz I'm gonna be drunk in charge of their kids.

Oh well,

better yet, put some brandy in the drinks fountain. They'll all be asleep by 5pm. Just make sure they are out of the house before the hangovers start.

Hands up all those who don't have a drink before thier DC's birthday party.

Well, I can't see any hands!

oh I am sooooo glad it's not just me.

Now my farking DH is faffing about with the new digital photo frame he bought me instead of fixing the kareoke machine and setting up the drinks fountain.

I really really wonder whether he deliberately does this last minute shit to wind me up.

Not before but I had a blardy lot after...good luck!

chocchipcookie · 06/01/2008 16:08

I hope this is a wind-up.

If not, you might want to think about whether you could do first aid for a child who was choking/had fallen and broken a bone/had concussion/had an allergic reaction.

Or talk coherently on the telphone to a 999 operator.

NiceShoes · 06/01/2008 16:19

how classy How responsible maybe have a fag too whilst your at it - you sad old lush

GreebosWhiskers · 06/01/2008 16:23

Um I get the feeling this is a wind-up? You'll see a lot of threads like this on MN but almost no-one ever actually means them.

I sincerely doubt if the OP really was pissed before her dd's party.

Chill, people

Nightynight · 06/01/2008 16:25

YABU and irresponsible too, if you're not joking.

ladymariner · 06/01/2008 17:12

Well, nameteken, how did it go? Can you still read this??? How many fingers am I holding up?

psychomum5 · 06/01/2008 17:16

am hoping the party went ok, and that you did have a drink!!!

at any and all of my kiddies parties (well, the ones at home that is), I get out the wine and every mum there (and dad) is offered some.

makes for a calmer me, and so a happier party girl/boy and a better party.

not least cos the mess is less likely to raise my latent OCD tendencies

Buda · 06/01/2008 17:17

I'd say we all NEED a drink before DC's parties but (unless it's a BBQ at home with lots of other adults around) I usually manage to wait till the last little blighter darling has gone home before having a HUGE glass of wine!

How did it go?

ladymariner · 06/01/2008 17:18

Same here, psycho, a drop of wine for all who want/need it at the party, a bottle for me when it's all over (bottle could be wine/vodka/bacardi/delete as required!!!!)

psychomum5 · 06/01/2008 17:29

for others who also think a drop of wine is fine!!

I never ever have more then a glass anyway while party is on, but then, I have never ever yet had a party for mine where I have people drop and run. EVERY party includes my friends and their kiddies, plus a few extra from the said chiilds class. normally means that the house is full of about 20/30 kiddies plus their mums.

(BUT, when I have 5 and three of my friends also have 4/5 each, plus flames 2, there is normally 20 here before invites go out.)

it does mean that wine is needed, and then several more after while tidying up.....but when it is my friends and we are not on a time-scale, the parties normally turn into a whoe day shindig

MaureenMLove · 06/01/2008 17:54

I'm the same as you Psycho! Nowt wrong with a small glass to calm the nerves! We usually involve all the parents too, so each is responsible for their own.

I've had a drink now, in charge of a 12 year old! I've had a very trying day!

nametaken · 06/01/2008 18:53

hey guys, party went great, had 2 glasses of wine, just enough to take the edge off.

Last one left 10 minutes ago and now I'm gonna surf for a bit.
