To wonder why I feel foggy headed and like I'm in a dream sometimes?

Ever since lockdown I started to notice that when I'm out the house I feel foggy headed and like I'm in a dream. It feels like my consciousness has taken a step back and the outside world feels further away. I can see and hear my surroundings but they are muffled. I can't concentrate, I had it once in a busy street and I couldn't really trust myself to safely cross a road.

At first I noticed it happening in supermarkets so I thought it was the lights. But it's also happened in dimly lit restaurants and even outside once in a busy street. It never happens at home so I think maybe it's anxiety?

I'm currently seeing the GP for anxiety so I'm not sure whether to bring it up as a potential symptom?

Sounds like Anxiety. Disassociation specifically

MoiraNotRuby · 19/03/2022 19:41

Definitely talk to your doctor. It could be anxiety, it could be a deficiency in some nutrient or other. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Depersonalisation/derealisation. It’s horrible. Triggered by anxiety. It’s the brains way of protecting itself from too much anxiety.

Nattalie18 · 19/03/2022 19:43

Sorry meant to say dearealisation not dissociation 😬

[quote orinocosfavoritecake]Does this sound like how you feel?

Yes some of that does sound like how I feel

It's not really an out-of-body kind of feeling but just that everything is fuzzy/foggy, it's like my body is only letting small doses of the outside world into my perception so everything seems hazy and like I can't concentrate

I started experiencing this in my Kate 20's, turns out it was the very first beginnings if peri menopause and only improved on my trying loads of different hrt 's. My second symptom was vivid dreams and nightmares, then anxiety started kicking in. Please post with most details if you feel like it OP. It's definitely an anxiety symptom but yep, can definitely result from physical issues causing different neurological functioning.

Long covid?

itsfoggyinhere · 19/03/2022 21:29

I'm in my mid 20s at the moment, I hope it's not hormonal. It seems to happen mainly when I'm out surrounded by people, but I did feel it happen once when I people around me were arguing.

I haven't had COVID (as far as I'm aware).

It could be related to a nutrient deficiency, I don't have a very balanced diet

I get like this when my iron is low. Worth checking your diet.
