To think getting 50% back on selling a pushchair isn't bad?

Before I had my first child I bought a second hand quinny buzz (£30) that had already been used for multiple children and (separately) a second hand carrycot/pram bit (£50) to attach to it. Used it lots for multiple kids, storing it in the attic between uses. No more kids so I've just sold the lot on Facebook for £40. DH has been moaning about how 'they got an amazing deal' as if I should have charged more.

It doesn't really matter, as I need the storage space it was using more than we needed the money, but I just wondered what other people who have experience of selling on pushchairs thought?

Your DH is mad. Bet he didn’t fall over himself to clean them to sparkling fresh and photograph them beautifully or write glowing artistic descriptions for the listing?

Gizacluethen · 19/03/2022 13:18

You've had full use of a travel system for years for £40. Bargain!

Soubriquet · 19/03/2022 13:23

I think that sounds like a good price.

People don’t want to pay over the odds for a used pram. Getting about 50% is a good deal

DifficultBloodyWoman · 19/03/2022 13:23

I wouldn’t know, nobody in my family has ever left a pram in a good enough condition to sell (major wear and tear from kids and unpaved ground).

So, yeah, getting 50% is amazing! Good for you! And tell your DH to stop moaning - 50% on something that is third hand? Bloody brilliant!

Nnique · 19/03/2022 13:30

Men who moan about shit like this should get busy doing everything themselves. Then there wouldn’t be anything left to moan about, would there.

Bladdiebladdieblah · 19/03/2022 13:35

God I hate people who are stingy with stuff like this. I once went to look at a sofa bed that was absolutely fucking disgusting, with what I hoped were tea stains on the mattress. The bloke told me it was in really good condition and was offended when I said it wasn't worth the asking price it was so filthy.

GrandTheftWalrus · 19/03/2022 13:40

I done better than that. My mum bought my 1st pram second hand. I then sold it for 70 and asked if she wanted the money as she'd bought it and said no keep it and buy dd something nice! I then bought a lovely silver Cross stroller for 15 quid.

I didn't want to mention in the OP for fear of derailing my own thread into people calling me a lazy slattern but I didn't clean it at all. (Obviously it wasn't filthy when we packed it away, but could do with a full cover strip and wash which I'm sure it's new owner will!).

I think you did bloody well getting £40 for it!

I tried to sell a very good condition uppababy vista, neutral colour, including car seat adapters, immaculate carry cot, foot muff, all other accessories included in good nick, for £100. I got zero offers. I waited months tried lots of groups etc, nada. Eventually I gave up, gave it free to a local mum having a hard time.

Echobelly · 19/03/2022 13:56

Yeah, that's doing very well. I'd say it was tops 10% I got back for most baby things I sold on!

dfendyr · 19/03/2022 13:58

FFS tell him if he can do better then he can crack on with the rest of the stuff you want to sell off

Ownedbymycats · 19/03/2022 13:59

Let your dh sell the next piece of equipment.
On Facebook marketplace I noticed a sofa selling at 1k with a description saying it was from a prestigious local shop. The shop has been shut for at least 20 yrs and the sofa is bedecked with tassels and trims.

ImAvingOops · 19/03/2022 14:48

I sold a silver cross pram for £50 that I'd spend probably £350 (back in the day, when prams weren't around a grand!) So I think you did well, especially since you didn't clean it.
If accept no whinging from the dh, who has contributed zero effort to the sale.

cakewench · 19/03/2022 15:28

YANBU. Sounds like a perfectly good price for a pram of that age, and as you say, you've reclaimed that space as well.

Your DH reminds me of a few people I know. They're never putting in the organisational effort to sell anything, themselves, but always have to comment that they would have gotten more for an item. Hmm But if left to do the selling, somehow they never get around to it and everyone just has to live with the item taking up space. madness.

DyingForACuppa · 19/03/2022 21:54

Thanks all, I won't doubt myself in future. I have a ton more baby stuff to get rid off so I'll suggest DH steps up with selling the next thing!

You did really well with that! Round here you almost have to pay someone to take it!

Boxowine · 19/03/2022 22:46

I’d say you did pretty well. I have found every online sale I have ever made to be such a miserable experience all round that all I ever do now is give things away. And even then.

elliejjtiny · 19/03/2022 22:46

You did really well. I went through 4 buggies/prams with my 5 dc, spent about £600 in total and wore 3 into the ground. Managed to give the 4th to charity but the others had to be dumped as they were no use to anyone.
