I keep getting sick. Is it the damp/mould?!

I keep getting sick and have had colds constantly since mid January. I’ll have a day or two when I feel better and then a couple of days later I’ll be back to square 1.

DH has also been the same and toddler has had a constant runny nose. We all have chesty coughs on and off. Baby has so far been ok until this week and she has a cold.

It’s not covid as we did pcrs when it first kicked off and multiple lateral flows since. We had fever with the initial illness in Jan (hence PCRs) but have not had fever since, just run of the mill stuff nose, sore throat, fatigue, coughs etc.

Is this run of the mill toddler germs from nursery or is it something else? DH and I have never been so sick for so long before. We have a damp patch on an wall in our kitchen which we are getting fixed and I also discovered some mould in the bathroom behind the toilet cistern but otherwise I can’t see any other damp in the house. We don’t dry clothes inside.

I am going to bleach the area around the cistern but not sure how move the cistern itself. It’s on an external wall which is why I think there is mould there.

Sorry I know this isn’t really a AIBU but I feel like I’ve had a cold for so long I’ve forgotten what it’s like not to have one and it’s getting me down. Not sure it’s worth going to the GP about this.

Could be - I once lived in a flat with a damp problem and had a constant cold except after an hour or two at work it would get better. I finally twigged it was damp and mold in the flat causing the 'cold'. I would also suggest, if you have gas, that you get boiler checked and have carbon monoxide alarms installed - its probably not but its wise always to rule it out.

I doubt it’s the damp/mould. Kids do bring all sorts of bugs home, and there are a lot around now that masks are off.
Get a disposable dehumidifier and put it behind the toilet cistern to help prevent it happening again.
I actually have them on all my windowsills, it’s amazing how much they catch.

If your house has significant mould then it could be causing issues, but most normally healthy people wouldn't be brought down by a such a small area of mould.
Loads of people right now are having this, people are mixing more normally and all the usual bugs which were held in abeyance by covid restrictions are enjoying a free run in a population whose immunity isn't up to speed as much as it normally would be.
Plus the weather tempos are around the 8 degree mark which is the perfect temp for cold virus spread.
I think it's tedious but not note worthy. It'll pass when the weather warms up.

It is because you have a toddler - I spent a few years with one big after another when DS was that age.

Mould needs soap and water then vinegar. Don’t be shy with it. A regular spray of vinegar with a drop or two of dishwashing liquid will keep it at bay.

Don’t use bleach.
