Help! Suddenly incontinent?

Can anyone talk me down?

I had a UTI a couple of months ago. It was treated but the feeling of needing to go has never gone. It's hard to deal with. I saw a consultant this week who said UTIs can hang around for a while, not so l showing up on urine analysis. He gave me a week's antibiotic then I have to take half the dose for three months. He also recommended Replens for vaginal dryness.

I started the antibiotics on Wednesday and inserted the Replens that day too. Today, and yesterday I seem to have become a bit incontinent (and still need to go!). It's not happening because I'm desperate to go-it's just been happening randomly.

I don't think it's the Replens because it's hot like urine (TMI - so sorry). I'm also in the middle of a mental health crisis and adjusting to medication (mood stabiliser etc) that's causing horrific migraines and nausea. The thought of incontinence is is just the last straw. I know nothing about this. Can anyone help me? I'm worrying this will go and things are getting worse or more serious.

Thank you so much.

Hi I don’t want to alarm you but I’ve been told by both a doctor and a physio that you should seek urgent medical advice if you have sudden incontinence. I’d call 111 and see what they say. I hope you feel better soon.

ThePoorWeeDonkey · 19/03/2022 02:32

This sounds awful op. Sorry I can't offer any words of advice but I hope you're ok.

Emelene · 19/03/2022 02:45

Agree with the previous poster that you should seek urgent assistance/assessment tonight . After that I would contact the doctor you saw and see what they say. All the best OP.

Wishquestion · 19/03/2022 02:49

Thank you both. It's such a small amount that I thought maybe it's just the Replens emerging. I'll post an update time.

You may have “bladder crystals” which need to be surgically removed. See your GP.

Missingjigsawpuzzle · 19/03/2022 02:56

Hi not to alarm you (as most likely all is fine) but yes agree with above, your symptom requires checking sooner rather than later to be on the safe side

MingeofDeath · 19/03/2022 03:06

Are you experiencing any other symptoms such as pins and needles/numbness around your anus and lower back?

Nat6999 · 19/03/2022 04:34

I suffer from increased incontinence when I have a uti, it is almost like my bladder doesn't want to hold anything. I have mild incontinence usually due to overactive bladder but this is something else, my bladder continuously spasms & let's all the urine out. My record is 21 pads in a day. I would ask your GP to have your urine sample sent off to be tested again as it may be an antibiotic resistant infection or at least change the antibiotics.

As someone who performs urinalysis and has had training in this area, please call 111.

Thank you all.

I'm sorry you've had such an awful time Nat69.

Minge No, none of the symptoms you mentioned. I have a gnawing pain at my naval that has come and gone in the past (hernia repair) but that's all.

I get stress incontinence (like most women when they've had children) when I cough, sneeze or bend over. I wear thin pads. I also have an overactive bladder and was seeing 25-30 times a day! The "normal" amount is 8 wees in 24 hours.

I saw a Urologist, who asked me to measure how much I drank and how much I weed in a day, (I used a separate jug for each) and it turned out I'd been drinking 7 pints of fluid in a day - far too much. but that's been OK since I cut it down to 3 pints a day and stopped having caffeine (it really does make a difference)

Tootsey11 · 19/03/2022 10:57

What age are you Op?

QuantumHypothesis · 19/03/2022 11:07

Dud you ring 111 as advised? Sudden incontinence can be a symptom of cauda equina, which is a medical emergency.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 19/03/2022 11:09

Sudden incontinence can be an emergency - please ring 111.

Sorry for the overly dramatic thread title. I really think it's the Replens re-emerging. Haven't used it before and I didn't realise it was so watery.
