Estate agent

We’ve advertised our property with an estate agent. All good but when I just looked on right move under the listing there’s another listing for our home but advertised as 300K less and has “home wise 60+” on it. I phoned EA who told me that’s normal and all their properties get listed with HW to give a boost. Can someone please advise me?

HomeWise 60+ is a finance thing.. you would still get full cost, but basically the purchaser would have a finance deal for the rest that would get paid on their death.

@AuntieMorag I might be unreasonable about this but I feel a little uneasy about the whole thing. I feel it’s taking advantage of the buyer for some reason. Am I being crazy about this?

@Anonymou2113700 I don't know enough about it to know if it's taking advantage of anyone. But as the seller, you won't miss out on anything.

Does it take advantage of people? Yes and know. If someone has no relatives they want to leave money to, it sometimes makes sense to "cash in" on their home in this way. They get to live somewhere for as long as they like but at a big discount. When they die or go into care, they lose the property. But does that matter if they've got nobody to leave their money to?

Where it is wrong is when the person has children or someone else who should be getting an inheritance, because it's basically being stolen from them.

(Incidentally I went for a job interview at Homewise once - bloody odd interview panel. The only interview I've had where I actively stopped trying because I thought there was no way in hell I could work with those people.)

It’s up to the buyer if they want to get involved in a scheme like that. It’s not illegal.
