I have had a few letters from a company called Phoenix Life about a policy I may or may not have.
Yesterday I got one in a brown envelope from the DWP Bulk Letter Forwarding Service.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/pensions-and-insurance-tracing-and-letter-forwarding-service

I'm about 98% sure that I don't have a policy with them or the companies that have transferred their policies to them.
I should just ignore it shouldn't I?
Has anyone else had any correspondence from Phoenix Life?

Google them.

There is lots of information, double check email addresses and phone numbers and give them a call. The company exists.

Or try looking at companies house for tax info etc

Don’t see how you can lose anything from a phone call.

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/03/2022 19:54

Companies house says it was Pearl Life previously.

LubaLuca · 17/03/2022 19:54

I'd give them a call as well. What sort of information are they asking for in the letter?

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 17/03/2022 19:56

Yeah, they are a legit company. They want me to call but say they can't give me any information until they have my details. I'm not comfortable with that but I'm so bloody curious I know I'm probably going to cave and call them!

Use the website phone numbers and see what they ask.

They may just want to confirm you are who you say you are.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 17/03/2022 19:58

Weren't they Scottish Widows a thousand years ago?

RedWingBoots · 17/03/2022 20:01

Weren't they Scottish Widows a thousand years ago?
Nope.

They were Pearl Assurance.

They also have all London Life Limited policies.

RedWingBoots · 17/03/2022 20:02

OP they are a pension and life assurance company so give them limited details as it is likely they have a policy from a job you once had or someone has left you as a pension beneficiary.

RedWingBoots · 17/03/2022 20:04

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually Scottish Widows is part of Lloyds TSB.

Saltysaltycaramelanything · 17/03/2022 20:04

NPI were also taken over by Phoenix Life. I had a similar letter about missing funds a couple of weeks ago which I sent back. I don't think there are missing funds for me (sadly). I think they have an old address on their system for me under NPI whereas Phoenix Life one is up to date

Sounds like they are doing some spring cleaning of their systems.

ginslinger · 17/03/2022 20:04

I think that if it came via DWP that there is something in it

WTF475878237NC · 17/03/2022 20:06

You can always hang up the call without giving any real contact info out if you establish it's just marketing.

LifeIsBusy · 17/03/2022 20:06

Have you ever had anything with standard life?

DuckyNoMates · 17/03/2022 20:09

www.phoenixlife.co.uk/about-phoenix-life/transfers-and-mergers

Any of these ring a bell? They are a legit company so I'd give them a ring.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 17/03/2022 20:13

I really don't think that's the way that insurance companies get people's data Smile

Ring up and find out what they want

Comingout0fmycage · 17/03/2022 20:24

@RedWingBoots LLoyds TSB hasn't existed since 2013. Separate companies. Scottish Widows are part of LLoyds Banking Group

HereComesTheSum · 17/03/2022 20:27

You're being super paranoid. A massive legit company like this wouldn't go to these lengths just to get some random persons details to then try and sell to them. Thank logically.

HereComesTheSum · 17/03/2022 20:27

THINK not thank

If they were Scottish windows that would make a wee bit sense.

Yeah, you're right I am being super paranoid. Thanks for all the input. I'll give them a call tomorrow. I doubt it's to tell me I have loads of cash squirrelled away but it will bug me until I knowGrin

Good on you! Hope you're a millionaire.

Sooverthemill · 17/03/2022 20:44

I had this. They wanted to,check details for a local government pension scheme I was no longer a member of ( I'd transferred it to a different scheme and am in fact receiving it).so I called them and told them I didn't need to give them info and asked them to take me off their list

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 17/03/2022 20:45

Dont ignore it. Just ring or email them. I was traced through DWP a few years ago regarding the opting out of serps and possible mis-selling pension policies, early 90s. It won't be a scam
