Cost of school swimming lessons

My son is in year 4 and attends a mainstream school which is part of a multi academy trust

They’re due to start swimming lessons after Easter and the letter which came home said the cost of this, including the instructor and transport to and from the venue, for the 9 weeks of lessons will be £62

As I understood it, because swimming is part of the national curriculum, they can’t make you pay for the lessons, but they can ask for a voluntary contribution from parents

AIBU to think £62 is absolutely taking the piss?

We pay nothing for school swimming lessons. Juniors walk up to a school with a pool. Infants go in a mini bus to another school with a pool. It's free and I think it's fantastic.

@Bananarama21 sadly I think the group I am taking about has 15 non swimmers in 1 group, but then probably 10 stage 2/3 and 5 stage 5 and above, in the second group. I would hate to be the teacher as I can't see how that works fornany of them!

I wouldn’t pay this because I already pay a lot for private lessons for my children and it stretches my budget as it is. So I wouldn’t pay even more for them to get extra lessons in a bigger group when they are already swimming weekly with good teachers who know them better.
