WIBU to go to this show on my own?

I have tickets booked to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

I was meant to be going with my dd, but she has a party invitation. Yes, I could insist she come with me and turn down the invitation, but I'm not going to thee theatre with someone who won't want to be there!

I can't think of anyone who would want to come with me. Would it be a weird show to go to on my own? If it was something else, I wouldn't bat an eyelid and I go to the cinema on my own all the time. But there's something about this one which I think makes it a family show.

I'm probably being U even worrying about it, and I should just go shouldn't I? Aibu to go on my own?

YABU = don't go on your own
YANBU = go on your own

YANBU - go alone!

Rubyupbeat · 17/03/2022 09:53

I go to the theatre quite often on my own, no one bats an eyelid.

ThettaReddast · 17/03/2022 09:54

I live going to the theatre alone. No one bats an eyelid, especially once the lights are down, go for it!

YellowRosesWhiteRoses · 17/03/2022 09:54

Thanks! I think you're right and I should just go.

I'll ask around friends anyway, but otherwise I'll fly solo

Ooh of it's in the North East I'll come with you OP!!

To be fair I'd relish going to the Theatre alone too :)

MushroomCow99 · 17/03/2022 10:19

I would love to see it. Grin it's not weird, go solo and enjoy! I'm jealous.

girlmom21 · 17/03/2022 10:21

Is it the one in Birmingham?
I was trying to decide the etiquette around taking a baby to the afternoon performance Grin

Joinedforthis22 · 17/03/2022 10:25

Go on your own and if you're feeling self conscious sit with a notepad on your lap, make notes before the show starts and during the interval, everyone will think you're a critic Wink

shabbalabba · 17/03/2022 10:29

No one? Not even a work friend or cousin or aunt who you could treat to it?

YellowRosesWhiteRoses · 17/03/2022 10:45

It's the one in Woking, not Birmingham or the NE Grin. I think they said under threes aren't allowed in.

I've just started a new job, so couldn't really invite anyone from there... maybe a colleague from my old work actually.

I will ask around, but my question is really, if there are no takers, should I go on my own or try to change the dates if they'll let me? I think I'll just go, as it's a tour and I probably won't get to see it if I miss it! And I love Narnia

Why would anyone give a shiny shit!!

I saw Hannah Gadsby recently by myself. I had a meal and a glass of wine beforehand and read a book in the restaurant. It was bloody bliss!

YellowRosesWhiteRoses · 17/03/2022 10:56

I wouldn't hesitate for a comedian or for a grown up sort of play. And equally, I wouldn't hesitate to go with another adult even though Narnia is a children's book series. Not sure what made me question going alone to a kid friendly show, but I do think you're all right and I don't need to worry.

If nobody wants to come with me, I'll go solo!

We went to the theatre yesterday and I was sat next to someone who'd gone alone. Her husband didn't want to go so she went alone and loved it

User564358985 · 17/03/2022 11:19

Sounds like a dream, I'd love to go the theatre alone.

Also, if the question is "AIBU to go alone?" What is the point in posters saying "Have you really got noone to bring?". Not the question and just comes off sneery

Ponoka7 · 17/03/2022 11:22

I go to the theatre on my own, it's the one place that no-one notices that you are by yourself. People can't always get seats together and often only one will go to the bar. Not that it matters. My Christmas treat to myself is going to the Old Vic and spending two days in London, alone.

YouBelongHere · 17/03/2022 12:16

Definitely go OP, I saw it in Bham last week with a small group of friends and loved it! I go to the theatre quite often by myself including 'family friendly' performances such as Matilda, Frozen etc. and honestly no one cares.

Hope you enjoy the show Smile
