Severe anxiety with covid

On the 10th March I tested positive for covid and I'm still testing faintly positive now, ever since I've been suffering the worst anxiety I've ever had. Nothing Is taking the edge off, I'm on propranolol and cyclizine and duloxetine NONE of it is working. I can't eat, I'm struggling with sleep I go to sleep anxious and i wake in the night anxious and then I wake in the morning anxious. I had severe watery diahorrea yesterday and il probably have it again today. My chest starts to feel uncomfortable, my body feels like it's shaking internally, I'm struggling to watch the TV, or do my housework. If I try to eat it feels like my throat is closing up. I can't even have a cup of tea! I can only drink water! Sometimes I feel like I'm not 'here'
Has anyone else felt like this with covid?

If you are on all this medication then your anxiety must be more than seven days old when you caught Covid? Is it maybe part of a bigger issue?

Backachesandheadaches · 17/03/2022 08:07

@Orchidsonthetable I've only been on them since yesterday.

If you've only been on them a day it'll take a while to kick in, hope you're feeling better soon

I had this too for a few days and got diazepam from GP.
Awful anxiety that I could feel in my body, trembling with fear internally and feeling like it would never go away.
It wasn't anxiety about covid or having covid, it was a raw existential fear that was just awful.
Thankfully, it's gone now, although after 14 days of covid I'm still unwell with tiredness and general malaise.

That sounds awful OP. Anxiety is common with long covid but not sure why. There are some covid groups on social media (fb) that can likely offer some help from people who are also experiencing this. I've found them useful for other symptoms.

The feeling your throat is closing up is due to the anxiety, its just a sensation. It's a scary feeling but try and tell yourself it isn't real.

I wonder if CBT could help to look for triggers? Give the medication time to work. Things will get easier xx

@Toloveandtowork that's exactly how I'm feeling. I don't think it's anxiety about covid, I don't actually know what I'm anxious about but it seems its everything. It's horrible, the worst I've ever had it 😫

Gosh that’s a lot to give someone at once. But the pp is right, they take awhile to kick in.

I felt anxious when I had it. It was at the start of the Russian invasion and I just shook. I knew it wasn't normal and had heard of others experiencing this which helped me to cope. Watched a lot of Netflix to distract me. Am fine now.

It's well known that covid attacks the nervous system, this might be causing the dreaded anxiety you feel.
It will ease off, please don't worry. I do a lot of meditation so was able to sit with the terrible feelings, but also went out for walks while rattling with fear inside. I felt the movement helped.
I'm sure you will be better in a few days.
Maybe try Mindful Movement Yoga Nidra on YouTube.
Another hack is to make a deep wuuuuuu sound right down into your belly as you breathe out slowly.
Also search up Mindful Movement anxiety on YouTube and do that meditation that involves some humming which calms the nervous system.
The yoga Nidra one is around 40 minutes and the anxiety one is around 20 minutes.
Good luck Op, it will be ok.

Medications like that take much longer to work and stabilise. Did they prescribe all 3 of those to start at the same time?? That's very odd.
