I have started cutting back on heating , water usage, clothes shopping and montly groceries in order to save money, but I feel like it's still not enough. What are your strategies and suggestions to save up ?

I feel like unless you live overly extravagantly, it's a better strategy to try and earn more money than to cut back.

So I'm aiming for promotion

Isn't this thread done every day on here at the moment? I don't know really, I feel like we can't cut back anymore without being miserable as we are already frugal and haven't used heating this winter anyway. I already feel like I do everything that can be done apart from buying the cheapest of cheap food (although we still meal plan and shop at Lidl, never eat out etc), We're just going to increase our earnings, which I know isn't a choice for everyone.

@ChloemolI didn't read the others and who the hell made you incharge , get off the thread if you are that bothered

By reading all of the other posts on here asking the same question over and over. It’s great.

Got you riled!

TabithaTittlemouse · 16/03/2022 23:17

@Chloemol you have been evicted, please leave the big brother house.

Surely there are ways to notice a difference , I don't spend on anything luxurious , just everyday expenses add up to my entire pay check !

We've always been careful with money so we won't be doing anything differently.

Depends whether those everyday expenses are essential or not. Many people are only spending on essentials as is and there's nothing left to cut.

I'm getting seven cups of tea out of one tea bag

MaryAndHerNet · 16/03/2022 23:29

Fuck all I can do

Haven't used heating or immersion heater for years. Buy cheap food already. Living in poverty like I do is likely to take 20+ years off my life, so I'll be dead soon and it won't matter anymore.

The best thing is to find a Tory supporter, slap them with a fish, it's their fault

Whiskersonkittens21 · 16/03/2022 23:39

I've signed up to work an extra day a week to top up my income.

HeebieJeebies7 · 17/03/2022 07:09

Thank you all for your ideas, I have taken them on board

@MaryAndHerNet that’s a fucking ridiculous thing to say. Have you SEEN the price of fish?

HeebieJeebies7 · 17/03/2022 07:34

@EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter that made me laugh , to be honest fish has become impossible to afford

My tip is to check all your contracts. We've just realised we were out of our BT contract so switched to TalkTalk and saved £10 a month. Also have a look at bank accounts like the Santander 123 account with cashback on bills, or the cashback activations you can do on a Halifax account.

RaininSummer · 17/03/2022 07:41

Can't cut back much more really. Always lived fairly frugally on a day to day basis but new clothes are banned which isn't a bad thing anyway. So basically other than tightening up on things I already do just going to try to use food, heating and fuel more mindfully.

TheEarthIsNotFlat · 17/03/2022 07:48

Hear me out on this one and bear in mind it’s a short term fix. Every little helps as they say! Anyway, the food delivery box services always have fantastic intro offers for new customers eg Gousto and Hello Fresh. I’ve just ordered a 4 person box (even though it’s just me and DH) with 4 different meals in it for £17.59. We’ve done it before and that’s 8 meals in total so lasted 4 nights.
Also, find out when your local supermarket does yellow stickers. We really lucked out last week because the lady was just doing everything. Chicken fillets marked down from £4 to 99p, yes please! Got a load of those plus thighs.
We’re getting solar panels next month.
We tend to wear jumpers and socks more and only put the heating on if it’s really chilly.
I just got my mobile phone down from £38cm to £8pcm as it’s now sim only. Just got to wait until DH and DS are out of contract 😂

I'm wonder why, on a forum mainly used by women, we are addressed as 'you guys' (men)? 😒

Echo a previous poster, focusing on earning more money. Have always worked and kept my career. All too often posters on here seem to be giving up work after children, but not thinking ahead, cost of living been very low in the past!

Been frugal in past so that I can absorb massive increases in interest rates/cost of living rises etc. Walk or cycle everywhere.
