To ask if Gousto is better than Hello Fresh?

Which is better value and are the ingredients of the same quality?

At the moment I'm working through all of them and making the most of the discounts for new subscribers. So far I'm impressed with both, although hello fresh is perhaps a little less varied (they seem to be big fans of courgettes and red peppers).

I prefer gousto, I've not been that keen on hello fresh, I've done the same as you, used the discounts on both, I've been happy with all my gousto meals

Orangeteddy · 16/03/2022 21:26

Also prefer Gousto. Found Hello Fresh a bit samey (pasta & courgettes!) with a lot of additional premiums to pay. Occasionally try it again when they offer discounts but mainly stick to Gousto - & occasionally Simply Cook for a change

DrierThanANunsNasty · 16/03/2022 21:29

I’ve used both on and off for a long time, but hands down prefer Gousto. I had nonstop issues with HF forgetting things or sending me 3 meals all going off the day after my box arrived (pointless) but never had a problem with Gousto. Much more variety too!

AtillatheHun · 16/03/2022 21:33

Green chef is 100x better than both. It’s the healthy version of hello fresh so same godawful packaging issues but far better recipes and never had a messed up order or missing item

pinkpirlie · 16/03/2022 21:37

I much prefer gousto, but I only get a box when they send us an offer to rejoin.
You can make a meal for 4 into 6 portions usually with the addition of some staples (calories in 1 portion are often in excess of 700).
I found hello fresh didn't have sufficient seasonings and the quality of the ingredients wasn't the same.

Poppiesway1 · 16/03/2022 21:46

Well.. today my 2nd Hello fresh order arrived after a six month break.
Two of the meals I’d picked were missing the chicken. The third meal was not something I’d even requested and it was missing the prawns that was supposed to be with it anyway. I also got three extra bags of dry ingredients for meals which I didn’t request.

Very bizarre. I complained on their live chat.. they will refund me £9, even though it cost me £28 and Im sure the bags of rice and pasta I’ve been sent didn’t cost £19.
I’ve cancelled them now. And I won’t be using Hello Fresh again. I wish Asda etc did something similar with their online delivery service. I’d definitely use them.

Yes - would love that!! Waitrose do mindful chef so maybe it will happen at some point....

Love the concept and love not having to think about what I'm going to cook for dinner!!

Yes, absolutely need to watch the calories!! Some healthy choices but plenty of calorific ones for sure!!

I prefer Gousto

Emmab321 · 16/03/2022 22:51

Gousto is far superior in my opinion. Better quality ingredients and more meal options .I tried hello fresh for the 1st time in a few years this week. The onion and spring onion I received for a meal were unusable. Back to Gousto for me

chilling19 · 16/03/2022 22:55

Gousto for me

OkOkWhatsNext · 16/03/2022 22:59

Gousto recipes are better and more varied. They don’t seem to offer as many rejoin discounts as hello Fresh.

fucketyfuckwit · 16/03/2022 23:18

We have recently been having Hello Fresh.

Some of the calories were so high we had to substitute things like 1000 cals worth of crème fraishe for 250 cals of light Philadelphia.

Merryoldgoat · 17/03/2022 01:23

I just had a look and it’s about £9 a meal
For 2.

I’m using Cook (thanks to a thread on here) and it’s so much easier and comparable price wise. Straight into the oven and hardly any washing up.

For the veg we just pre cut it into zip loc bags and steam in the microwave. It’s honestly changed our week.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/03/2022 07:22

They do, or at least very similar, at normal grocery prices, with normal amounts of packaging.

Look at the recipes section, which I think all the supermarket websites have, pick the ones you like the look of, and click the button that adds the ingredients to your shopping list.

You can then tweak the list to remove ingredients you already have, switch brands, pick organic meat, choose special offers, etc etc, then add the rest of your shopping list and order as normal.

You will have to buy the odd spice that you might have to think to use again, but that's the only downside compared with no excess packaging, fewer problems with missing ingredients (people repeatedly talk about this, which makes HF and Gousto totally pointless as far as I can see) and far cheaper.

I can't believe they've got away with getting so many people to pay so much for meals that rely on basic ingredients like courgettes and pasta. I've had a look on occasion and anything vaguely interesting is always either sold out or is even more expensive, and in most cases, we have over half the ingredients in already.

TheEarthIsNotFlat · 17/03/2022 07:29

Gousto is way better. We tried Hello Fresh and a lot of the time the vegetables weren’t very fresh. When on the offers you can eat really cheaply for a week or two, might have to do that next month as we’ve just moved house and DH has never had an account 😆

Bagelsandbrie · 17/03/2022 07:36

We haven’t tried hello fresh but when we did Gousto we enjoyed it for a few weeks and then it seemed quite repetitive in terms of the ingredients used - each week a lot of the meals tended to use the same fresh ingredients (understandably they want to bulk buy stuff so plan around this) and a lot of the meals ended up tasting sort of weirdly similar.

psychomath · 17/03/2022 07:51

Never used any of these companies myself as I think they're a rip off, but my vegan friend gets Gousto and we've made some of the meals together, and I have to admit I was impressed by the range of recipes they offer. If I had to subscribe to one I'd probably go with them.

BunnyNumNum · 17/03/2022 07:55

We definitely prefer Gousto as the ingredients are fresher and they have more options we like.

If you would like to try it you can get 65% off with my referral code (and I get a thank you too)

CecilyTheWake · 17/03/2022 08:37

I’ve used both and now stick with Gousto. I got fed up with the lack of vegetarian/pescatarian options on Hello Fresh, plus the quality of the ingredients wasn’t great. Gousto is good value for money (four recipes for two people) and I like the menu options.

CornishGem1975 · 17/03/2022 08:40

Gousto is way better than Hello Fresh in my experience. Better recipe choices.

I get Gousto boxes when I get a discount of credit. Last one cost me £24 for four meals for two. I don't think that's a rip-off considering what we had. I find the portions massive too.
AnotherDelphinium · 17/03/2022 08:41

I moved to mindful chef and the hello fresh seemed to just be bulked out with carbs and the calories per-portion were very high, and also low in protein.

Rainbowshit · 17/03/2022 08:51

We preferred gousto. We found the calorie content too high in hello fresh and the recipes used every pan in the house so loads of washing up.
