Trying on clothes before buying

Just had someone ask to try on something I am selling second hand to see if it fits. Being sold on ebay/facebook at a small fraction of purchase price as a worn once kind of item. Am I being unreasonable to say no?

I have bought plenty of work dresses and sold maternity clothes on these kind of sites and this is the first time someone has asked.

YANBU. Buying clothes 2nd hand you just have to take the chance that they'll fit. If they don't, then the buyer can just resell them.

acatcalledjohn · 16/03/2022 17:23

YANBU. Sold as seen. If they want to try they'll have to go to a shop/charity shop or buy from an online retailer with a returns policy.

I’ve bought a few bits this way and would just sell it on or donate something if it didn’t fit, I wouldn’t ask to try it on. Where would they do that?

Kolani · 16/03/2022 17:28

Let me get this right...they want you to send it to them (for nothing) so they can try it on, and then if it fits they'll pay for it (Grin), if not they'll send it back Grin?

YANBU. You are not a shop.

jen2012 · 16/03/2022 17:37

Yes! I replied " I am not a shop" and funnily enough they are not interested anymore!
I was just imagining them turning up yo my door and what requesting a changing room? 🤣

I had this! Met up as agreed at a shopping centre with a woman buying an outfit from me for about a tenner - she took the bag off me and said could she just try it on and nipped into the toilets before I could say anything! Admittedly I was too taken aback to say anything.

Out she came, said it doesn't fit and thrust the bag at me and fucked off.

I was so cross - not least at myself for not saying something but I was honestly gobsmacked

Depends on what it is and the price point. I'm going around to see an evening dress tomorrow and will be trying it on - at £60 I'm not able to risk it but it was £230 new. The lady selling offered to either let me try on at her house or bring it to my work (a church) get suggestion

jen2012 · 17/03/2022 17:25

It was 25 pounds for something that was 300 pound new. I thought it was just a risk you take for a bargain 😀

For 25quid ur absolutely right, no way!

I did consider selling my weeding dress. And I did think I wld need to allow it to be tried on as I still wanted about £3-400 for it. I didn't in the end cldnt be bothered with the hassle. It's a size 8 too and I'm a midget so there wld only be a small target market lol.
