..when they ask how to look wealthy?

Several threads in the style section over the years, whether it's referred to as wealthy, posh or UC.

What would one hope to achieve if attempting to do this? To feel more secure, admired, or ...something? Perhaps it is a distraction from reality and not feeling fulfilled with one's material situation.

AIBU to feel life is too short for stressing over this?
(I look like a boho ferret so haven't got a horse in this race Grin)

I would assume they mean polished or well put together both of which are easier if you have the financial resources. I guess they are asking for tips on achieving this look without being well off?

They like a certain look or style and hope to emulate it.

Just like you quite like Boho ferret look, they want something else.

What do you hope to achieve by being a Boho ferret?

Not sure anyone is stressing about it just asking for some ideas.

I have a certain style and I feel more comfortable and confident dressed that way. I feel like me. Just like you feel like you and happy as the Boho ferret.

I do think certain situations are easier if you come across as though you have plenty of money. However, that doesn't always mean dressing up in expensive clothes.

Some people like other looks. I wouldnt stress about other people's style too much 😉

I tried on a coat once and DP said it made me look rich. I thought it such a strange thing to say (whilst beaming and handing my card to the shop assistant). Now I get it. I want to look rich. Sadly, looking more like Peter Stringfellow in a nice coat.

i think i need boho ferret as new username.

in relation to my OP, i was thinking of those threads where there are a lot of arguments about dressing to look wealthier, to fit in with those of different social groups, sometimes to feel better at work amongst peers who are wealthier. Not so much about style alone.
Ive only ever seen this on mn, but i do need to get out more Grin

This happened to me, many yrs ago when wearing a pair of primark skinnies and a polo neck from H&M. I must have that je ne sais quoi!

It's never happened since, though.

Confidence. It’s a well-known fact that when you meet someone new, 80% of their first impression that is often retained throughout your association with them, is how you present yourself.
E.g. If I turned up to a Management presentation wearing jeans and a tee shirt, I wouldn’t be listened to as well as if I turned up in a classy outfit with my hair done nicely Etc.

Completely agree. I have two looks....waynetta slob or aging 1980s barmaid.

I have a DD with sn who had lots of appointments. Whenever we had to meet a consultant or doctor, I made a serious effort to look smart and as middle class as I could manage!
