To humble brag

Aside from DH, don’t have anyone else to tell, so Aibu to humble brag about my almost 2.5 year old.

We took her to a natural history museum and she could identify on sight different species of dinosaurs and say them correctly! And when was wanted to see others that weren’t there she asked for them. I’m just so proud of her.

She knew: raptors, pterodactyls, brontosaurus, T. rex, triceratops, spinosaurus, stegosaurus and one other that swims (name escapes me). She also knew wooly mammoth and all ‘modern day’ animals.

I don’t know, I think it’s quite advanced. She had a rough start in life with growth restriction and ongoing issues around her growth, so I’m just so proud of her

I don't think there is anything wrong at all in being proud of your children! I don't have my own, but my little niece (3) shocked me when she was telling me all about the dinosaurs!

Brag away! :D

inheritancetrack · 15/03/2022 11:35

Brag here, but not in RL. You will come across as 'that' parent.

M0rT · 15/03/2022 11:37

Apparently children who are really into dinosaurs as toddlers do go on to be academic Grin
I'm sure it's just lovely to see her bright and interested in the world.

Ponoka7 · 15/03/2022 11:37

You can find pride in whatever you decide. Our children are mixed abilities, backgrounds, circumstances etc, there shouldn't be a benchmark that they have to achieve for us to feel proud of them.

Popcornriver · 15/03/2022 11:40

Well done to her. That's brilliant! She knows more than me Blush

Mrsjayy · 15/03/2022 11:41

Well done her my Dd loved a dinosaur at that age and at nearly 30 still does its absolutely fine to celebrate your children's interests.

Anoisagusaris · 15/03/2022 11:41

Don’t think that counts as a humble brag. Just a regular brag 😆

Comedycook · 15/03/2022 11:41

Bless you...I'm sure she's an absolute star!

TristesseDurera · 15/03/2022 11:44

Your daughter's understanding of dinosaurs is clearly better than her mother's understanding of the term "humble".

There obviously isn’t. Just proud that she’s taken an interest in something and learned about it. We’ve only got one book that says dinosaur names so she’s really paid attention and she loves that new Jurassic world Netflix show so has probably picked up a lot from there

Yeah exactly, hence my post. Irl no one needs ‘that’ parent

Being delighted with, and delighting in our children is such an important part of being a parent, it's nice to see you being delighted about this!

Earlier today I was delighted that my 9 year old remembered to sort his footie kit our, complete with a post game snack tucked in his shoe...

Delighting in our kids lays really important foundations for feeling valued and having a good sense of self. Smile

wildthingsinthenight · 15/03/2022 11:48

Awww bless her. Well done Mini Kanfuzed.

Brag away on here! Both of mine had amazing dinosaur knowledge at that age and regularly corrected my incorrect identification and pronunciation. I always find it amazing how they take onboard dinosaur names!

SpottedOnMN · 15/03/2022 11:56

Try the Parenting High Potential group on Facebook, great for talking about bright kids without anyone thinking you’re bragging. They ask a few questions before they accept your membership request so look out for them.

LemonsLimes · 15/03/2022 11:58

She sounds like a clever little thing and a sweetie Smile

That's amazing, you are right to be proud and it is very advanced in my opinion.

bigbluebus · 15/03/2022 12:05

My DS had the same 'skill' at that age. A couple of years later he left the barber speechless when he asked DS 'What do you want to be when you grow up?' and DS replied 'a paleontologist'.

His interests did move on to other things but he had years of impressing both classmates and adults with his knowledge and pronunciation!

IsThePopeCatholic · 15/03/2022 12:13

That’s great - and so much more interesting than bloody unicorns and Disney characters. She rocks!

Brightsunshinyday · 15/03/2022 12:13

That is awesome! My kids were really into dinosaurs too and we all loved the dinostory songs by Howdytoons on YouTube.
