Hello
Well, I started a new job recently. Team generally very nice but I have an issue with one colleague who I feel is dead ignorant towards someone who is a new starter. Whilst colleagues aren't obliged to be a personal friend, she has taken to wearing headphones behind a desk with me when we are on duty together with her back facing towards me. I am practically having to lean over her to serve customers whilst she is blatantly hosting a personal zoom/web chat with friends. As a temp, I am not in a position to rock the boat and I don't want her to get in trouble with her boss - I've not argued with my colleague but feel that she could have made more of an effort to assist a new starter. Her seat was tilted at an angle at the same desk but students came to me all the time - I had to lean across to get stuff when she is sitting right next to the equipment and as I passed her terminal and saw the two people on it with the chat - they all stared at me as if they were 'busted'. I've not confronted her - I just think it's extremely rude and unprofessional when I've worked with her in a building for all of 2 weeks. I understand the bigger the teams the greater the divide can be with personalities but she did nothing to help out.
How should I deal with this? Part of me says the best thing to do is not react - my husband says just don't be available for her and take longer working on other projects out of her own gaze.
