Constant gas and hyper behaviour

Can anyone help at all, before I go insane.

Dd, 3.5 has had discomfort after eating for around 5/6 months now. Not always, but many times, she can’t sit still to eat anymore, gets straight up or jumps all over us/is completely hyper. We realised was gas as she has started passing wind so so much.
I’ve taken her on countless doctor appointments. She’s had a stomach scan-all clear, poo analysis-all clear, urine clear. I’ve also been keeping a diary of things she eats when it happens, to see if there’s a pattern with milk or bread etc…I can’t see any pattern.
Her poo is sometimes, tmi, a mix of dark poo and light, soft and hard. There’s obviously something going on, but no doctors can give me any help or prescribe anything.
When she has tummy aches, her behaviour is out of control, she’s completely hyper, climbing around, running around and shouting etc, she almost goes into a trance. Paracetamol medicine etc doesn’t really take the edge off.
Has anyone had similar? Getting to the point where she has tummy ache almost immediately after eating and is becoming reluctant to eat.

Please help

Abdominal migraine?

Letsgobacktothenineties · 14/03/2022 18:47

@bellac11 Just looking it up, does that cause constant gas?

She doesn’t have any of the other symptoms

My eldest had had something similar and like you I’ve never got to the bottom of it but the most helpful advice I’ve had so far has been water water water. They poo sounds like constipation and that’s what makes my daughter crazy - it was really obvious when she went to school and drank no water all day. She’s 7 now and still struggles to sit still at the table but her tummy aches are much better with plenty of hydration.

Letsgobacktothenineties · 14/03/2022 19:57

@RhodaDendron Thank you for the feedback, will definitely up her water intake. When did your daughter start having it? Mine was absolutely fine until one day it started and has been on and off since then. When did you notice it going?
I’m wondering whether to get some constipation medicine for her (if they do it for 3 year olds 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Sounds like constipation.

Letsgobacktothenineties · 14/03/2022 20:49

@Duracellbunnywannabe But does that cause pain and trapped gas straight after eating?

OP posts:
Squeezita · 14/03/2022 20:51

Could it be IBS? Coeliac? Fodmap?

Letsgobacktothenineties · 14/03/2022 21:01

@Squeezita I can’t seem to be able to figure out which foods may be having an effect, it seems fairly random
How can a doctor diagnose these issues?

If it's a non ige allergy (which could cause wind/constipation) removing it from diet is the most accurate way to see impact. So you pick one food type at a time, remove from diet for a number of weeks and see if there's any difference , if No then slowly reintroduce and then a few weeks later try another food. You could ask to be referred to an allergy clinic for support. Celiac can be tested for as can fpies both would be under allergist.

Letsgobacktothenineties · 14/03/2022 22:47

@autienotnaughty Thanks so much. So should I for example, stop all milk and dairy products for two weeks and see if there’s an improvement? Not sure how great it is not having milk and dairy at this age 🤷🏻‍♀️
Would they need to do blood tests on her to find out?

Yes if you want to eliminate I would start with dairy for about three week as it can take a week or so to leave system. You would be best to cut soya too as proteins are similar. A good milk substitute is oatly and pure butter is quite nice. Dairy and soya pop up in lots of things - bread, gravy, crisps so it is a case of checking everything. Then reintroduce gradually over a few days, leave it a couple of week for stomach to settle and then try gluten. It's not a quick process but if done properly it is effective. If you are unsure about elimination definitely request a referral to a dietitian or allergist for advice. My son has dairy, soya and nut allergies but he was a baby so the elimination method was a lot easier.

Would she drink some peppermint tea? Or fennel tea? Both have a calming effect on the digestive system.

Obviously not too hot, but nice and warm?

You could try some pre and probiotics or kefir too.

Is she swallowing lots of air? Gulping? She's not having too much brown bread or brown pasta is she? They need fibre, and plenty of it, but sometimes we go too far!

Keep on with the medical route, but maybe you could supplement with an osteopath, mine loved a trip to the osteopath. I know that sounds weird, but there's something about being listened to and gently manipulated that made them feel like someone took them seriously and helped them. Which is worth a lot!

Poor love.

mummysboy65 · 15/03/2022 07:32

Blood tests are not effective on non ige allergies/intolerances only ige ie anaphylaxis allergies show in blood. I'd do some research first Google cmpa which is the milk allergy and gluten allergy and see what you think.

Icannever · 15/03/2022 07:35

Another idea which is a bit more extreme than an elimination diet But should give faster results is to try something like the whole 30 diet. Google it and you will get lots of information, books etc.
It basically cuts out all foods people are likely to be sensitive to for 30 days and then gradually reintroduces them one by one. It's not easy to follow but it has helped a few people I know with their stomach issues and energy issues.

I would start by buying a very good child's probiotic though as that's an easy way to help her gut. Did the problems start after a stomach bug or antibiotics? Those can change the bacteria in your gut

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 15/03/2022 07:41

There are definitely paediatric laxatives, although they tend to have to be prescribed as opposed to OTC. But I'd guess it's going to help to treat the constipation, the poor wee thing. I have similar caused by food intolerances and have been experimenting with a 'FODMAP' diet to pin down the culprits.

Letsgobacktothenineties · 15/03/2022 08:38

Thanks everyone. We all had a sickness bug in August and I’d say she started with issues around September/October, she’d been great up until then, although as a wee baby 0-4 months, she had a lot of gas and suffered quite badly with it.
Does anyone know if there’s a connection to being hyperactive with food/tummy issues? This also started around the same time, I can see why it would be if she’s in pain, but it can be other times too.
I thought to start the dairy this morning and have moved milk & yoghurts out of the way, so she doesn’t ask for them 🙈but didn’t think and put butter on her toast 😬
