My friend has had some vaginal bleeding is constantly bloated and weeing more plus dribbling. Her Male gp said it's normal for her age, 50s. She's petite and eating less because she thinks it's that.
I've talked her into making an appointment with her usually female gp. She's same one I have and spot on.
Doesn't he know these are symptoms of ovarian cancer?
She's getting so down.

She needs to be much more firm: "No. actually I'd like a 2nd opinion please. I feel like I'm being fobbed off'.
'Could you please make sure that's recorded in my notes'.

Such a sad thread. There are lots of brilliant Drs out there too - its great that you can support your friend, encourage her to get 2nd opinions. We shouldn't have to fight for proper treatment.
So many stories, friend who has had cronic issues since her teens has just been diagnosed with severe endremetrios age 39 and is having a hysterectomy. Was fobbed off for 2 decades!

My GP did blood tests and sent me for an ultrasound on the back of much less worrying symptoms than that, OP. YANBU and I wish I could send your friend to her.

I'm so scared. Another friend is showing dementia symptoms. That's a hard conversation to have. Her h won't give a shit.

This is shite for your friend and well done on you to help her get a second opinion. I disagree though on the difference between male or female doctors. Took me 7 years to be diagnosed with endo, my female doctor fobbed me off for years, demanded to be sent to a gynecologists', seen a female doc she was a weapon, total bitch, told me was overacting and refused a scan, asked to be transferred and now have a lovely male gyne who diagnosed two huge cysts straight away, sever endometrioses. Now hear i am nearly 10 years later after having 7 laporoscomys.

She's got a telephone appointment end of month.

@Juniper68

She's got a telephone appointment end of month.
You're completely right OP. Maybe ask her to phone for a female GP as an urgent appointment and actually state possible ovarian cancer as the reason for the appointment to the receptionist.
Juniper68 · 14/03/2022 13:02

I told her to say this but she mustn't have?

Could she get a private scan done? Places that do private baby scans also do women's wellness scans, she could try ultrasound direct

Juniper68 · 14/03/2022 13:20

I'll mention it.

TBH my experience is never see a female doctor for a female issue, they fob you off accuse you of being melodramatic and it cant possibly be that bad etc.

I had extremely painful periods for years where I couldnt even stand up for more then a few mins without risking blackouts.

i stopped asking for female GPs and went with men, because if anything is said about female problems they just instantly sent you away for tests and scans etc because they haven't got a clue and they will take your word for it.
