To ask which books will change my life?

Posting here for traffic.
I’m looking for recommendations for audio books that can change my life. I have 10 unused credits to use. The reason I have 10 credits is because I never got round to cancelling the subscription and that is the tip of the ice berg.
I don’t exercise but want to, I used to run a lot. I have let myself go, I want to lose 2 stone. I want to declutter my house. I want to get off my phone and read. I want to have the energy to get off my phone and do something, anything. I want to have some energy full stop and have a life that is more than work, lie on sofa and mindlessly scroll SM, sleep v badly and repeat.
I want to change and I’m hoping the first step might be to go for a walk and listen to a life changing audio book!
Which books (or anything else for that matter) have motivated you to make changes and get on top of things?
(P.s I don’t think I’m depressed, although I might be a bit. I’m probably peri menopausal. I have probably got undiagnosed ADHD that is unmasking with peri menopause).

No advice but pretty much in the same state

Atomic Habits by James Clear

PeacefulPrune · 13/03/2022 20:34

The power of now by Ekhart Tolle - was life changing for me
Untamed by Glennon Doyle - maybe not life changing but very inspiring.

thesandwich · 13/03/2022 20:36

The seven habits of highly effective people Stephen covey

HighDudgeonAtBerks · 13/03/2022 20:40

Humankind by Rutger Bregman. It’s just so bloody uplifting. Restored my faith in humanity and taught me how to focus on the right things.

Don’t be put off my Rutger reading the intro! He doesn’t do the rest of it Grin

I would definitely recommend starting with Mel Robbins the ‘5 Second Rule’ and then listening to a few of her others. She’s like a friend and a coach rolled into 1.

Brene Brown is another good one - try her book ‘I Thought it Was Just Me’

Another shout here for Untamed by Glennon Doyle.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy by J. Satterfield

Why has nobody told me this Before by Dr Julie Smith

Santiagopink · 13/03/2022 20:48

The drummer and the great mountain has been useful for understanding adhd and a few tips for dealing with it. The info is very good but the presenters start to grate on my nerves

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/03/2022 20:53

I can second Atomic Habits. Excellent book.

Habits for Happiness is free on Audible so that won't use any credits but it's excellent too.

Just for all round joy because these are wonderful audiobooks books - The Five, A Thousand Ships, Once upon a River and anything by Jess Kidd (Himself is my favourite).

MarineBlue33 · 13/03/2022 20:54

Atomic Habits by James Clear - already mentioned above

NoSquirrels · 13/03/2022 20:58

In self-help-y terms

Atomic Habits - James Clear

Why We Sleep - Matthew Walker

Decluttering at the Speed of Life - Dana White

The Happiness Project - Gretchen Rubin

Gladioli23 · 13/03/2022 21:03

I really enjoyed Why We Sleep, recommended above.

I find I can't listen to an audiobook unless I'm doing something (or falling asleep), so actually you might find any book you want to listen to gets you up and off the sofa if you listen while you sort the house out/go for a walk/do dinner stretches or whatever.

Gladioli23 · 13/03/2022 21:03

*do some stretches

ExtraOnion · 13/03/2022 21:06

A woman in your own right - Anne Dickinson.

Feel the fear and do it anyway by Susan Jeffers

hdjdjehhdhdvsv · 13/03/2022 21:19

It's not a self help book, but the hidden life of trees literally had me wandering around looking at all of the trees I pass every day. I used to be so head down, mobe forward but now I look up and really feel as though I see the life in nature. I am going to look at the private life of plants and the silent scream of the Lima bean next.

I know it may not be what you're looking for but I find self help books can only do so much, this book has changed my life at least and made me go out side for walks way more.

everybodystalking · 13/03/2022 21:22

With the end in mind by K Mannix : not a self help book, just stories about people at the end of their lif. It will focus your mind on what and who matters most to you and may encourage you in the bigger picture. Or at least it did for me.

Just F*cking Do It by Noor Hibbert - I really enjoyed this book

J56789 · 13/03/2022 21:49

If you google 'Atomic Habits free', you can download the book in pdf format, for those who would prefer that to an audio book.
