Someone said I'm overweight. Getting coil removed.

I had my copper coil put in 2 years ago and ever since I've been putting weight on. I've been struggling to lose weight. I've always been 8 stone at 5ft1 and I got weighed at doctors I'm just over 10 stone!
It's not budging though!
Then today a friends brother said that I'm a bit big and my bf should better himself 😪😔 :-(
I was thinking of getting the coil out anyway but my period started today. Do you think they'll still like it out ?

You can have a coil removed whenever you like, but I’m not sure the copper coil affects weight.

inksinkbink · 13/03/2022 18:32

It made me pile weight on! Everyone medical said no, it won't be that. It was. Remove remove remove!

doadeer · 13/03/2022 18:35

I'm sorry someone said that to you, how mean and unnecessary.

Why what the copper coil make you put weight on? Not being goady but I don't understand how it could? It doesn't contain any hormones?

ClariceQuiff · 13/03/2022 18:35

Never mind getting rid of your coil; you want to get rid of your friend's brother. He was totally out of order!

PurpleDaisies · 13/03/2022 18:36

What are you planning on replacing it with? Many hormonal contraceptives are worse for weight gain.

PurpleDaisies · 13/03/2022 18:37

Sorry, pressed post by accident. It’s easy to blame you coil but it’s not a side effect of copper coils.

Ohhhthepain · 13/03/2022 18:39

Copper coil would have no effect on weight. It’s a piece of metal, no hormones. Mirena may differ.

It’s actually easier to remove and insert coils during your period as your cervix is more pliable according to my drs, I recently had one changed having just come on.

Friend’s brother sounds like a cock. Can you imagine saying that to someone? What would motivate that, totally out of line.

Alicew00 · 13/03/2022 18:39

I've never had problems with the rod before intact I easily lost weight with that.
I'm defo going in to have it out. Can't cope with the intense period pains anyway.

It’s not the coil. No hormones and no way if affects weight.
If you’ve banged weight on with no obvious cause such as dietary or lifestyle changes then perhaps see you GP for proper investigations such as thyroid.
Also your friends brother is a nasty arsehole, ignore him. Flowers

DollyPardoned · 13/03/2022 18:43

Your friends brother is a rude bastard.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/03/2022 18:44

He sounds like a vile horrible
Person. Get rid of him in your life. Did your BF defend you?

Middersweekly · 13/03/2022 18:44

How rude of your friends brother! I don’t see how your weight is any of his business. He sounds like a childish knob! That aside, a copper coil is non hormonal and won’t cause weight gain but if you’re having other menstrual issues with it then of course you’re free to change your method of contraception. I’ve had a copper coil for 10 years! I will soon change it for another one.

MurmuratingStarling · 13/03/2022 18:50

Urgh vile. 10 stone isn't even that big FFS! Hmm

MurmuratingStarling · 13/03/2022 18:50

No, not even for 5 foot 1.

Thatswhyimacat · 13/03/2022 19:14

If you went from hormonal contraception to the coil it's possible that the weight gain is from the reduced hormones...it is possible to both lose and gain weight on hormonal contraception. Or it could just be the pandemic where an awful lot of us have gotten bigger!

FirstTimeMum6666 · 13/03/2022 19:31

Without realising you've most probably been eating more and moving less.. its and easy thing to do. Making excuses other than that isn't going to help you lose weight. Now you know diet and exercise it off if you're so unhappy. Don't do it just because someone rude thinks your fat.

TristesseDurera · 13/03/2022 19:34

@MurmuratingStarling

No, not even for 5 foot 1.
It's a bmi of 27.6 so I think the op is quite justified in wanting to get back to her previous healthy weight. The friend sounds like a total wanker though.
