Testing positive at 33 weeks pregnant

ohnoohnoohnononononooo · 13/03/2022 17:38

Tripple vaccinated. Boosted in November !

Any positive stories please ? What do I need to do ? Call the midwife? Or can that wait?

Thanks and sorry for posting here.

Very slight symptoms right now. I mean if the queen got through it at 90 whatever age she is, I should be OK ??

Oh I have an underlying health problem which actually does mean I can get anti virals. But I'm not sure if I can, as I'm pregnant. Does anyone know ?

I had it at 33 weeks a fortnight ago. Called the midwife as I had an appointment to reschedule, she told me to keep hydrated and take paracetamol as I needed it. I milked it a bit and took three days off work and stayed in bed but really I could have pushed through if I’d needed to. Hopefully you’ll have an easy ride of it, get well soon!x

saoirse31 · 13/03/2022 17:45

Call your midwife and your GP. Get their advice, and best of luck!

betwixtlives · 13/03/2022 17:48

What would you expect your midwife to do about it?

Give specific pregnancy related advice perhaps ? Nice comment

Did you send back the red box pcr kit that those who would get the antivirals all got? If you did, someone should be in touch with you within 24 hours of your positive result. They will guide you re your pregnancy. If you didn't, you need to ring 111 now because time is of the essence

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/03/2022 17:55

The NHS advice is to call your GP or NHS 111 for advice as you're potentially eligible for the antiviral treatment.

Looking at the information for the different drugs, two say definitely that they must not be taken in pregnancy, but it isn't so clear on another one - but even if you are not able to be prescribed one, getting in touch and ensuring that they know you are CEV and pregnant should make it easier for you to be in receipt of good monitoring and care.

LJAKS · 13/03/2022 17:59

Definitely call. I'm 33 weeks and some people in my pregnancy chat have been given the blood thinning injections, others told paracetamol and a lie down. There's no consistency but let them make the call.

Hugasauras · 13/03/2022 18:00

@betwixtlives

Well some people are higher risk for various reasons and would be prescribed blood thinners for a start.

I have the test somewhere but I haven't taken it yet or sent it off. I only got my positive a couple of hours ago, but I will see to it asap.

Hope you aren't affected too badly, OP. I'd definitely ring midwife in the morning or text if that's how you make contact and see what she says.

Sarahcoggles · 13/03/2022 18:03

Don’t call the GP about antivirals, they have no control over it.

Mindymomo · 13/03/2022 18:14

@Sarahcoggles. The GP can make you an appointment for a medical assessment unit, which they did for my husband on Thursday, they saw him and checked him over but gave antibiotics and said antiviral drug wouldn’t be given to him as his heart condition wasn’t eligible.

OP. Speak to midwife, they may want you to take blood thinning treatment.

ohnoohnoohnononononooo · 13/03/2022 18:18

I'm going to call everyone to be honest. Why the fuck shouldn't I try to do everything to look after myself ? To not ' bother ' medical professionals. Fuck off. If they can't help, they can tell me that. I need to fight and make sure I get the best treatment available to me.

I was pregnant during the harsher lockdown (2020-21) and the midwife's advice was to notify them as at the very least, they wanted to note that you had covid, just in case there were any issues. In OP's case, they may want to prescribe additional precautionary medication as she has an underlying condition.
ohnoohnoohnononononooo · 13/03/2022 18:21

I've logged a positive LFT now and they should contact me. If I don't hear anything, I'll call everyone I need to in the morning. Time is of the essence with the treatments, if I can have any, seeing as I am pregnant.

They give you a oxygen tracker and record it in case the babys movements change. And you know, act like a midwife and as your first point of call for health related things whilst being pregnant. What do you think midwifes do?....
ohnoohnoohnononononooo · 13/03/2022 18:22

From the NHS website

If you have not been contacted within 24 hours of your positive PCR or rapid lateral flow test but you think you may be eligible for treatment, call your GP surgery or call 111. You cannot get help for this online.
Your GP or 111 will be able to make an urgent referral if needed.

I had it at 16 weeks pregnant and me and baby were perfectly fine! Our little babas are stronger than you think! Get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, naps if you need to and eat good! You will be fine Smile I took paracetamol to help keep my temp down too x

LittleGwyneth · 13/03/2022 18:42

You will almost certainly be completely fine. I had it at about 25/26 weeks, just took the recommended amount of paracetamol, rested up and waited to get better. It was like a cold, in the olden days I'd have gone to work after the first day or two. I know it's scary but try not to panic, it's really really not such a massive deal. Let the midwife know, but don't obsess.

Thank you ! I've done all I can !

Did your symptoms start mild and get worse ?

I barely have anything at the moment!

All around my maternity unit there are signs saying to call if you get a positive covid test so I assume they'd want to know. I'd give them a call OP. Hope you're doing OK.

Youreatragedystartingtohappen · 14/03/2022 07:20

I had this, my community midwife told me it's standard practice for my area to send oxygen monitors to pregnant women who have covid. All was fine (I lost my sense of taste and smell for a couple of days but that was as serious as it got) and I'm currently waiting for my healthy 4 week old to wake up. Big hugs and health sending its way to you

Blossomandbee · 14/03/2022 08:51

I'm not sure if all areas are the same, but I've just had to register a positive lateral flow test and this is the advise on the text that followed:
