Hello

I'm 29 and my skin is in desperate need of some TLC. I wear make up every day for work.

I have an oily tzone and large pores on my nose and around that area.

I have been using the ordinary hylauronic acid, the squaline cleaner and moisturiser for about 6 weeks but I'm not seeing any difference.

Ideally I need a cleanser, toner and moisturiser but have no idea where to start.

I've tried supermarket/high street brands which tend to make it worse.

Please tell me what fixed your skin!

The best thing I ever did for my skin was to stop using so many products and chemicals on it. I now think that all this “cleansing and toning” we’re told is so important by the beauty industry is just a way to sell us more products.

I use a mix of castor oil and coconut oil to remove my makeup, wash my face with just warm water and a gentle exfoliating cloth, and use a Paula’s Choice moisturiser with SPF. I used to think I had combination skin which was both oily and dry - it’s now neither, blackheads entirely disappeared and I can’t remember the last time I had a spot or blemish.

I've just discovered temple spa and it's absolutely amazing! I have tricky skin and it's never looked better! I'm usually quite lazy with skin care but doing the cleanse/tone/moisturise routine every night feels like I'm having a facial every night and it smells amazing which motivates me to do it even if tired! X

I had a Temple Spa facial and my face erupted in a painful angry rash. There is 'red pepper' (chilli!) in it.

Each to their own, I suppose!

I have recently converted to tropic. I have always avoided it because I’m not keen on the MLM/social selling concept but a friend of mine had some (she doesn’t sell it) and I really liked it. I also discovered you don’t need to buy it from a rep/Facebook group because you can order direct from the tropic website. It’s a genuinely good product, it’s been a month now and my dryness is much improved as is my skin texture.

I think those Liz Earle type hit cloth cleansers are a good starting point

Plus tone and moisturise, maybe an eye cream and serum underneath

Spf on your face and neck

Facial scrub and mask every week?

I found Clarins good as well

Hyaluronic acid is a con. The hyaluronic acid deep within your skin layers retain moisture, putting it on topically does nothing other than temporarily plump up the surface with water and in some cases can even draw water OUT of the skin and dehydrate it.

I got prescription tretinoin which at first really reduced my skin oil. It's now a bit drying and irritating so I'm going to stop, plus I don't like using too much retinoid as it's also damaging long-term, but for now it's worked pretty well.

Medik8 are all brilliant

OverByYer · 13/03/2022 14:16

If you have oily t zone try a glycolic or salycic toner. The Paula’s choice ones are the best but Primark do a good glycolic one too.
I don’t rate Liz Earle left my skin congested.
I prefer a simple gel wash off cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream, moisturiser

woodhill · 13/03/2022 14:18

I think the original Liz Earle stuff may have been better

On these types of thread I always recommend Face theory. I have oily skin and did have quite a few breakouts. I use a cream cleanser, face wash, toner, serum and moisturiser usually. The double cleanse is to remove makeup. I am not using the toner or serum at the moment as I am pregnant. I found this make a world of difference to my skin and it is now breakout free. The serum I use is Niacinamide and HA.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/03/2022 14:22

Do you use foundation? If so switch to a CC cream or some such thing for a while see if that improves your skin.

I also think that less is more. I have great skin for. 50+ year old (not boasting I am pig ugly but my skin is fab) and have always just used a cheap moisturiser, Vaseline as eye cream and tried to give my skin as much free time as possible from make up. My skin when you get suffered with make up.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/03/2022 14:24

*younger.

I wash with water and use micellar water to cleanse

Pixi Glow Tonic. My skin absolutely loves it and it was the only thing (I tried loads) that fixed the flaky bits on the side on my nose.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 13/03/2022 15:41

I'm currently using superdrugs naturally radiant range. Not too pricey and actually works, my skin is lots clearer, to the point my dad can tell when i get lazy and stop using it for a few weeks and my skin goes shit again.

ThinWomansBrain · 13/03/2022 16:01

I second Liz Earle's hot cloth cleanser

Also. Superdrugs Vitamin E range has an equally effective one at about a tenth of the price.
Been using that for about six years - then about three years ago I started using Connock London Kukui oil as a moisturiser - my skin had been amazing. The only time I've noticed the odd blemish is when I've had to add or switch to something with SPF.

Medik8 press and glow toner, its gentle and can be used everyday and also clinique moisture surge moisturiser, its gel based and is great under make up!
