To ask where you get your fancy dresses?

I’m getting married this summer and I REALLY don’t want to wear white/ivory/cream/pastel. I want a beautiful dress, but something red carpet/black tie fancy in a jewel tone or metallic. Ideally something I might conceivably wear again.

This is surprisingly hard to find! So, if you’re a person who owns or wears this sort of thing, where would you go?

Online, London or the Home Counties, ideally. And I’d like keep it under £2K if humanly possible (which seems an insane amount to spend on a dress to me, but I’ve been assured I can’t go much lower).

Thank you!

What about ghost? Or Nancy Mac velvet jumpsuits are absolutely gorgeous and they've had a few styled as wedding outfits.

My absolute dream wedding/non wedding dress though was a marchesa one with fancy frills.

Also stumbled across a Jenny Yoo English rose Logan dress in a dreamy velvet v neck.

What about the new trend of hiring a designer dress, so you could be in a 5 grand dress but it only cost 100 quid to hire it? I don't know any of the company names cos I'd consider "being dressed up" means I've put a bra on! Grin
But I have seen Lisa Snowdon talking about it....sounds like a great idea tbh

Net a Porter. In the end intent for a slightly unconventional Amanda wakely for the wedding but I tried a few stunner frocks from that website first.

@BitterestPill I’ll have a look! That does sound like a great idea.

I was also just going to suggest hiring. I went to a very fancy wedding (pre covid) where there was a black tie evening do. On the hen party quite a few of the others were talking about how they were hiring a dress. Was bit late for me to consider as I'd already gone and bought something but next time I'll absolutely do that.

Have a look around Selfridge's, MyTheresa, Net-a-Porter

My daughter bought a very nice black dress on eBay. She then added a beautiful shawl. The shawl cost about 3 times what the dressed, but the whole thing was less lan £500, and of course all reusable in a non-wedding context.

@Hausa defiantly try GALVAN!

I got my wedding dress form here for my wedding in Jan 2022, they are incredible. Their gowns are beautiful, clean lines and simple but so elegant, with incredible materials and so well made!

They have so many different dresses, They have a store in London which I went to, I called them and booked an appointment beforehand and gave them a list of their dresses I wanted to try and they had them all their waiting for me to try on!

Everyone commented on my dress, it was so beautiful!

My niece was married in a castle nearly 17 years ago and wore a deep purple ballgown. We also had a lot of snow for the two days that we were there , it was about a foot deep and the wedding photos were gorgeous especially my niece in her dress .

@AlwaysTryingToHelp That sounds fab, thanks. I’ll have a look!
