Quick passports question

Booked an abroad holiday during the Easter holidays (roughly three weeks away) with my family and some friends and their kids. Friend needed to renew her passport and also apply for her ds first passport which meant her dh had to send his passport off too. Friends renewed passport came back quite quickly but she is still waiting on her ds and her husbands passport to come back.

We are all getting a little anxious now as it's been several weeks (passports were sent off end of Jan/beginning of Feb) and there doesn't seem to be any progress on the status of the application. She is trying to contact often but isn't really getting anywhere.

We will be so disappointed if they can't come. Just wondering if anyone else has applied for a new passport recently and how long it took?

They tell you on the website what current wait times are. It’s currently 5 weeks. There is an online form you can fill in if you’ve been waiting more than 10 weeks and you’re travelling soon, I believe. You can also track the application online too.

When I applied for my son's very first passport, it took about 4 weeks in the end (I sent it in January) We did have a couple of things that did delay it slightly (different professional person to confirm our identity etc). We did ours online which I think might be quicker, they sent updates and confirmation via email.

?? You don't need to send off parents passport when applying for one for a child - you just need to fill in the required details

I think she needs to ring up and see if anything can be done to locate and return the DH passport.

Applied for daughters 1st on 11/01 - had to send an extra doc, new passport received back about 15/02

We applied for our DD's first passport at the end of January and it came through at the beginning of March. So about 5 weeks or so. We didn't have to send off a parent's passport though.

She has been checking the website and it just says progressing and has been at this status for ages. Her husbands was sent off as a supporting document? I wasn't sure if this is a new thing.

By the time we are due to travel it will have been over 10 weeks since they were sent away but it's just getting a bit close now and none of can relax until they come back!

Why has he sent off his passport? That's very odd

Ljmumun · 12/03/2022 13:37

DD passport renewal done on line 25th Feb. I had message this am to say its been approved and is being printed. Hopefully getting it by the end of the week so 3 weeks. Never sent in my passport or.DH only included passport numbers

Bornsloppy · 12/03/2022 13:43

DC2s first passport came back in 6 weeks at the start of the year. Only had to send off birth certificate (same for DC1 two years earlier) but we're both UK passport holders so maybe dad is dual passport/another nationality and that's why he's sent his.

User4099642 · 12/03/2022 13:49

Mine took about six weeks. I got it back this week and it was at Liverpool. It took at least a week and a half from the 'your passport has been approved' email to the 'your passport is on its way' email and another six days for it to actually arrive. I thought it would be the next day.

SnailAndAWhale · 12/03/2022 13:54

We sent off for our DD’s first passport end of January. It took until the beginning of March to be approved, then we had the ‘printed and posted’ notification Wednesday last week but still waiting for it to actually arrive. With my first daughter, we got her 1st passport 3 years and it was applied for and back within 2 weeks so seems a much longer process at the moment.

FlipFlopsMakeMyToesCold · 12/03/2022 13:55

I sent off for my child's renewal second week of february. Took about two weeks for them to acknowledge receipt of sent expired passport.
We received her new passport today so all in all it took about 5-6 weeks.

FlipFlopsMakeMyToesCold · 12/03/2022 13:56

Forgot to add, we are in London if that is relevant.

bruffin · 12/03/2022 13:59

I applied on 28th Feb and they have only received my passport yesterday. Apparently there is a hold up in the system because of the volume of applications where they acknowledge receipt of post atm

popcorndiva · 12/03/2022 14:12

Just checked we applied 29th Jan for DD's first passport and received it 24th Feb.

They asked us to get two separate people to confirm identity which took an extra 4 days.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 12/03/2022 14:16

There’s a website where you can see messages from those that have sent their docs to the same office as you.

DD’s renewal came through after about 5 weeks last Oct. It was stuck in the system until I tweeted them. ;)

We renewed my sons, application done 6th Feb, verified on the 8th but I didn't post the old passport till the 12th. Passport arrived on Thursday (10th) this week was posted on 4th. So 4 weeks from me posting the passport which delayed it. South East but sent documents to Glasgow.

Sunshinexx95 · 26/04/2022 17:43

@OnceAgainWithFeeling
may I ask what you said when you tweeted them?
I’m so desperate … it has gone more than 6 weeks since I sent the documents.
